Job Summary

Job Summary

Position Overview Responsible for leading an elementary-school classroom by creating and implementing lesson plans, supporting students in all facets of their growth, and working with other educators to develop a well-rounded, comprehensive learning program. This is a homeroom position, and the teacher will be responsible for the subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and social-emotional learning.

Position Specifics Establish and practice rules for behavior and routines for keeping up students' focus and energy. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various and creative teaching methods.

Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. Assign and grade class work and homework. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.

Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks. Guide and counsel students to meet any academic challenges they may face or special interests they might hold.

Bachelor's degree, a teaching certificate or credential or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Advanced degree preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment and instructional strategies. Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more efficient strategies and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications.

Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Invests in the life of the school by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings, anti-bias training, and any and all aspects that support the student experience. Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment and integrity.

Effectively interacts with a diverse population of students and faculty. All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check, LiveScan fingerprinting and TB screening.
