Thin Film Process Engineer

Description

Overview:

Supports the ongoing production of optical components using process engineering skills. Improves optical thin film coating designs and processes to advance manufacturing maturity of optical products. The Thin Film Process Engineer reports to the Thin Film Process Engineering Team Lead.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a technical subject matter expert for optical thin film coating processes.

  • Assists in the transfer of optical coating process technologies from R&D to production and equipment into production.

  • Creates and improves documentation for the manufacture of optical components.

  • Trains technicians on the execution of optical coating processes.

  • Monitors and drives improvement of production optical coating processes and equipment using SPC.

  • Interacts with customers to solve quality problems.

  • Supports troubleshooting of existing optical coating equipment and processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Materials Science, or related field (Chemistry, Optics, etc.). Advanced degree desirable.

  • 5 years experience with optical thin film coating desirable.

  • Experience with vacuum technology desirable.

  • Proficiency with SPC desirable.

  • Experience with structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, etc) desirable.

Pay Range $80,000 - $105,000 a year, pay can be more or less depending on experience

Your responsibilities: * Cleans, inspects and measures more advanced/complex substrates to ensure quality. Will typically perform work on crystals and larger optics that require hand cleaning; * Performs design adjustments to meet spectral requirements; * Troubleshoots hardware; * Able to read and comprehend prints for determining specs on surface quality, substrate dimensions, arrow marking for side one and side two, packaging requirements; * Performs second check chamber start; * Rebuilds sources (Ebeam only); * Conditions sources; * Teamwork - works effectively within team. Can provide guidance to Tech I. Requirements * Typically has minimum of 3+ year optics experience or related industry experience and has demonstrated tech 2 expectations since last review * High school diploma or GED preferred.
