Carlisle Construction Materials LLC has an opportunity for a Thermoplastics Research and Process Engineer at our facility in Carlisle, PA. The primary duty of the Thermoplastics Research and Process Engineer is to research activities on new and existing products, and to identify and implement new technologies within the thermoplastics business group. This position operates under the general guidance of the Manager -- Thermoplastics R&D.

This position requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, or related field, plus two (2) years of R&D experience in chemical engineering or related occupation. Experience must include two (2) years of experience, which may be concurrent, in all of the following: 1) establishing thermoplastic products' design and performance requirements, formulations, process requirements, technical and processing specifications; 2) optimizing production efficiency for manufactured and marketed thermoplastic products and systems, investigate ways of reducing the cost of manufacturing products; 3) responsibility for projects related to new product and technology development, process and equipment analysis, development and optimization for products supported; 4) working with a company's Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing, Warranty, and Purchasing departments on defined project priorities, project scope and future development directions; and 5) applying thermoplastics formulation and testing techniques (PVC and TPO), thermoplastic sheets extruder/calendaring process, polymer stabilization for processing and weathering, predictive testing for thermoplastics products.

This position requires travel (primarily domestic) 5-10% of the time. All experience may be gained concurrently and may have been gained before, during or after completion of the Master's degree program.

In this role you will have the responsibility for implementing all research and development activities related to processing support of the membrane manufacturing and associated processes. This person will be the R&D link to plant processing associated with manufacturing products and assisting in design and start-up of process equipment. This encompasses technical design specifications for equipment, processing specifications, process assistance to the plants and development of ACE justifications. You will use sound process engineering principles and techniques across multiple disciplines utilized to produce CCM's thermoplastic membrane, thermoset membrane and molded rubber products. You will work with chemists, other engineers, and technically trained personnel, and works under the general guidance of the Process Research & Development Director -- Membrane Products. Job Responsibilities: * Lead the development and maintenance of manufacturing and process specifications for supported products. Products include thermoset membrane, thermoplastic membrane & molded rubber products. * Assist with equipment/line installs and start-ups associated with capital equipment projects * Work with all applicable CCM groups (SynTec, CCW, CRP, etc.) to define project priorities, project scope and future development directions associated with manufacturing processes. * Support the entire R&D group, other Carlisle divisions and Carlisle customers by answering questions, assisting with testing, evaluating equipment or systems, or providing any other applicable assistance as needed. * Lead task groups to investigate new methods and equipment for the manufacturing of Carlisle products. * Investigate methods and support efforts to reduce the manufacturing cost of Carlisle products * Conduct periodic analysis of key competitors to maintain an awareness level of their process capabilities * Attend process / equipment trade shows to stay current with the latest technologies Job Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physical Science or Engineering discipline * 3-5 years of experience in the plastics, rubber and/or single ply roofing industry * Ability to travel approximately 1 week per month * Strong project management skills with the ability to multiple projects and priorities * Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels * FMEA, sheet extrusion, calendaring, and engineering experience related to polymeric materials processing When you join CCM, you'll become part of a team that looks out for you, listens to your ideas and appreciates your work.
