Mechanical design and analysis of injection molded thermoplastic components and assemblies for electric motors. Focus will be on product development of new product, new product platform and product redesign, including an emphasis on cost reduction or cost analysis.

Tasks:

Product Development and design of injection molded thermoplastic components and assemblies.

Establish design guidelines, qualification protocols, and best practices for design of thermoplastic components and assemblies for electric motors.

Perform detailed cost/benefit analysis for use as an input in the design optimization.

Direct testing and interpret results of testing in order to ensure desired motor performance.

Insure product designs are cost effective and meet specifications and performance requirements through the practical application of engineering, design principles and industry standards.

Support of manufacturing process, mold design, and molding processes as required. Interface with molding suppliers, material manufacturers to ensure robust processes and desired results.

Interface with product management, sales and customers to ensure suitability and acceptance of molded components and assemblies.

Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Materials Engineering and 5 years' thermoplastic experience in a manufacturing environment

OR

Master's Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Materials Engineering and 3 years' thermoplastic experience in a manufacturing environment

  • A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience.
  • A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience mechanical modeling/FEA of thermoplastic components.

Experience in mold design or mold flow analysis.

Experience with design, analysis, or maintenance of rotating machinery or electrical machinery.

Strong team skills.

Strong communication skills to work with Sales, Marketing, Customers, and Manufacturing.

Experience with SAP, Word, and Excel

Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
