The Therapy Technician assists rehabilitation nurses and therapists with rehabilitation treatment and patient care according to hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines. In addition, the position:

  • Requires effective communication skills for working with patients, families, caregivers, and departmental and interdepartmental relationships.

  • Requires competency in assisting therapists and nurses with daily care and patient therapy as delegated.

  • Communicates to nurses and therapists on patient performance, condition and participation during delegated patient care activities.

  • Defers any information requests from physicians, patients, visitors etc regarding the patient's condition, diagnosis, prognosis, progress, plan of care or discharge plan to nurses or therapists.

The Therapy Technician creates an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by providing patient safety and patient-centered treatment.

What types of patients will you see? We are an acute rehabilitation hospital setting. Typically our patients spend an average of 2-4 weeks in our hospital and come to us with a wide variety of diagnosis such as: stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, various neurological disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, amputation, joint replacement, fractures, multiple trauma, cardiac conditions, and pulmonary conditions. 80% of our patients are discharged directly home.

We use evidence-based practice guidelines to treat our patients. We utilize our clinical outcomes to assess and improve our treatment interventions and programs. We participate in a national outcomes database, which provides benchmarks and sophisticated outcome reports to help us continually analyze and improve our patient outcomes.

You will use standard and advanced therapy technologies- depending on hospital location, some equipment used such as Auto Ambulators, Bioness, Interactive Metronome, Hand Mentor, SmartStep, Anodyne, Wii and CAPs may be available.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for obtaining pre-certification, determination and authorization for the facility, equipment and physician's fees to perform spinal cord stimulation based on physician recommendation. Forward authorized confirmation for procedure to facility, physician and representative. In addition, this position will in-service local/regional accounts on the pre-authorization process. THIS POSITION WILL BE BASED IN THE PHOENIX AZ AREA. Major Ongoing Responsibilities: * Responsible for managing multiple cases simultaneously within specific time frames * Verify benefits, complete authorization requests promptly * Timely follow up for requested authorizations * For each procedure, audit required clinical documents for completeness and accuracy * Obtain authorization for the facility, equipment and physician to perform spinal cord stimulation procedures from the insurance carrier. * Work with key customer contacts to obtain required clinical information for authorizations * Work with respective carriers utilization review department to obtain appropriate authorizations * Work within established guidelines when necessary to process appeal for denied requests * Act as subject matter expert to physicians and facilities for correct claim coding * Train local/regional accounts on pre-authorization process, in person or by phone * Work individually and in a team environment to educate and support assigned Field Territory Managers and Clinical Specialists Experience and Training: * Associate degree in Nursing/Home Health or related field. LVN/LPN strongly preferred. * Minimum of 2 plus yrs experience in a utilization (medical approval) environment or similar work experience * Experience in medical or DME Billing a plus * Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel specifically) medical billing software a plus * Knowledge of current CPT codes and familiarity with ICD-10CM (diagnosis coding) * Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment * Ability to accurately meet required time frames/deadlines * Ability to work as a team player and share workloads with other team members * Excellent communication skills; verbal and written * Ability to train/present concepts to others Other Skills and Characteristics: * General knowledge of private insurance, Worker's Compensation and Medicare guidelines pertaining to Prospective and Retrospective Utilization Review. * Self-disciplined to work in home office setting (outside corporate office) * Previous experience in public speaking or presenting to small groups * Attention to Detail * Ability to travel 20% of the time Special Information: * No relocation assistance for this position will be offered. * This position will be considered a remote position and the employee will need space in their home location as an office setting and will, in the future, require locked storage space. * Training for this role will be held in our Dallas area office, with the expectation that the first weeks will be training in Dallas Mon-Friday. * There will be additional travel to support this role between the Dallas area and the Phoenix area.
