$23.07 - $27.43 Hourly

$48,154.03 - $57,241.35 Annually

The Public Health Department is accepting applications to fill one (*CSR 1414) Part-Time, Bilingual English/ Spanish, Therapy Attendant to join our California Children Services (CCS) team in Lompoc.

We are also accepting applications to establish an employment list for future Full-Time, Part-Time, Extra Help (temporary) and *CSR 1414 vacancies for Therapy Attendants in Lompoc and Santa Barbara.

  • Civil Service Rule 1414. Appointment to Fill Vacancy During Leave of Absence. 1414 vacancies may occur as a result of a leave of absence and the duration of the appointment shall be subject to the return of the individual who is on leave. A person who is appointed to a position under Civil Service Rule 1414 may be able to transition into a regular position in the classification without re-application or re-testing, depending on the performance of the appointee and the needs of the department.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

California Children Services (CCS) is a statewide program that assists children from birth to 21 years old who have serious, chronic, congenital and disabling conditions requiring specialty medical care or rehabilitative therapy services. To learn more, please CLICK HERE.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Under close supervision, the Therapy Attendant assists professional staff in providing physical and occupational therapy to infants and children with physical disabilities; performs related work as required.

The IDEAL CANDIDATE will possess:

  • Strong typing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.

  • Knowledge of health insurance plans including Medi-Cal, both Fee-for-Service and CenCal.

  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Experience working effectively with diverse populations.

  • Experience working with individuals who have special healthcare needs.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • The ability to read, write, and converse (translate) fluently in English and Spanish.

Examples of Duties

  • Provides or assists treatment of patients under the direct supervision of a physical or occupational therapist.

  • Prepares clients for treatment by assisting with undressing and dressing of patients; weighing and measuring patients; assists with positioning them for treatment.

  • Assists therapists in explaining various treatment activities to patients, parents, and teachers.

  • Cleans treatment areas; maintains laundry, inventory of patient's supplies, and sanitation of therapy supplies and equipment.

  • Answer phones; schedules patient appointments; filing; maintains appropriate records and documentation of patient's treatment.

  • Transports patients from classrooms to on-site treatment centers.

  • Transports patient records to and from treatment centers and hospitals.

Employment Standards

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience working with children or individuals with physical disabilities; or,
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required abilities.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required and to travel independently.

  • The ability to read, write, and converse (translate) fluently in English and Spanish is required for this position.

  • Selectees for positions in this class assigned to Child Welfare Services are subject to being fingerprinted for the purpose of criminal record clearance, as authorized under Section 11105.3 of the California Penal Code and Section 16501 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.1)

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely; lift, carry and pull patients with short and long term disabilities; follow written and oral instructions from multiple staff; keep records; maintain confidentiality; and learn treatments and procedures in physical and occupational therapy.

Supplemental Information

APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS

  • Review applications and supplemental questionnaires to determine those applicants who meet the employment standards.

  • Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking: Responses to the required supplemental questionnaire will be evaluated and auto-scored. Candidates' final score and rank on the employment list will be determined by their responses to the supplemental questionnaire. This process may be eliminated if there are fewer than 11 qualified candidates.

Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive an email notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.

Conditional Job Offer: Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, candidate will be required to successfully complete a background check, which includes a conviction history check, and satisfactory reference checks. The appointee will be subject to a post-offer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.

The Public Health Department (PHD) requires all employees working in direct contact with patients or clients in a high-risk environment to comply with the PHD Employee Immunizations policy. This can be accomplished by providing documentation of immunizations, submitting laboratory immune titers demonstrating adequate immunity, or obtaining required vaccinations. A list of requirements, based on the specific program, will be sent at the time an offer letter is presented to the selected candidate(s) and initial documentation will be required at this time.

Disaster Service Workers: Pursuant to Governmental Code section 3100, all employees with the County of Santa Barbara are declared to be disaster service workers subject to such disaster service. Activities as may be assigned to them by their superiors or by law.
