Overview

Our Therapeutic Security Technicians offer front-line support to residents in the living units by continuously monitoring resident and unit activities. This position serves as a member of the treatment team while assuring the safety and security of the living unit.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Bachelor degree preferred

Experience:

  • One (1) year direct care experience in a forensic, correctional, mental health or hospital setting preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • None required

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Clinical Team Leader, Clinical Therapists and Psychologists in implementing the resident Integrated Care Plan.

  • Assists the Educational and Vocational Instructors and Recreation Specialists with implementing unit based activities.

  • Attends behavior committee meetings and 180-day Integrated Care Plan reviews for each resident on the unit.

  • Participates in regular living unit group meetings with all residents.

  • Assists the Unit Manager by maintaining the safety of the living unit and day rooms for residents and staff by enforcing policies and procedures, and conducting safety and security inspections.

  • Continually observes resident behavior for safety or clinical issues.

  • Intervenes and mediates in the settlement of disputes and altercations of residents on the living units.

  • Takes necessary corrective action to deescalate or halt adverse resident behavior including physical restraint of violent residents.

  • Performs routine searches of resident living areas to identify and remove contraband.

  • Records and documents resident behavior related to security, safety and treatment of residents. Records information in logs, reports or charts pertaining to daily resident activity and behavior. Prepares various reports on unit activities.

  • Conducts accurate living unit counts at assigned times each day and reports the actual number of residents on the living unit to central control.

  • Maintains movement logs of every resident on the unit and the destination of every resident that moves off the unit. Monitors routine resident movement into and out of the housing unit to deter contraband interdiction and to maintain resident accountability.

  • Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

  • Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.

  • Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education: * Masters or Doctoral degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related human services field Experience: * Prior clinical experience working with sexual offenders and an understanding of the dynamics of sexual deviance strongly preferred * Familiarity with relevant research literature, clinical assessments, procedures and methods, particularly those designed for sexual offenders * Ability to assess treatment goals and write goal-directed, individualized treatment plans, as well as the ability to monitor and document individual behavior patterns and modify treatment plans to meet changing treatment goals * Ability to instruct others in the implementation of therapeutic and behavioral interventions and procedures * Excellent listening and verbal communication skills * Familiarity with the diagnostic nomenclature outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual * Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and maintain objectivity with a criminal or forensic population * Appreciation of the need for and ability to maintain appropriate personal boundaries in working with sexual offender populations * Investment in expanding current skills/knowledge and to the transfer of this knowledge to other staff * Ability to form and maintain good working relationships with a diverse staff and a commitment to enhancing cultural competency * Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department Licenses/Certifications: * Affiliate or Clinical member of the Association for Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) preferred. Must be licensed or license-eligible in Florida as a Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Responsibilities * Comply with all laws, policies and procedures, rules and regulations formulated by the State of Florida Department of Children and Families, and any applicable professional governing bodies. * Deliver SOTP and other treatment to individuals and groups as assigned, in accordance with established performance standards. Document service delivery and resident progress on a weekly basis, completed in accordance with established standards and timeframes. * Serve as clinical therapist to assigned residents, with frequency and amount of direct contact with residents consistent with established performance standards.
