The mission of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is to provide statewide leadership of a high-quality mental health and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery system that is effective and valued by all Ohioans.
Under general supervision, a Therapeutic Program Worker provides direct care services and assists patients to function independently in self-help and daily living skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Receives daily shift assignments on patient escorts and supervision duties; escorts and supervises patients to and from applicable nursing units to the Medical Clinics for medical or dental appointments- always checking in with the unit charge registered nurse on patient appointments to assure that the right patient has the correct clinic appointment prior to unit departure- checks in with the clinic registered nurse, directly supervises patients waiting to see the RN or clinic physician, escorts patients back to the units upon completing the clinic visits; For outside clinic or hospital visits, must coordinate travel with the transportation services, must check in with the physician office or clinic staff, supervises patients during outside clinic or hospital visits; may accompany patients on both routine and emergency Temporary Medical Transfers (TMT's) as applicable; During all internal and external medical, dental or surgical visits with patients, will hand carry medical records or continuity of care records from health care providers, must accurately communicate all patient responses to care, any unusual incidents or patient behaviors during clinic visits with the nursing supervisors and unit registered nurses, must follow all patient confidentiality and HIPPA regulations regarding medical diagnosis, treatments and medical care activities of patients; Follows all "Movement Policy" provisions for forensic and high risk patients, as applicable, when questions arise regarding security related matters contact Nursing Supervisor or TVBH Police; For all Timothy B. Moritz Unit patient movements and clinic visits, all patient movements and transportation must be coordinated with the Corrections Supervisor/Officers and the Moritz Clinical Nurse Managers and unit registered nurses; all patient specific precautions need to be known and followed.
Under the supervision of the Unit Nurse, provides direct nursing services to patients based upon established nursing service department standards of care per population served within the facility (e.g., adult acute, geriatric, forensic, MI/MR).
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence pursuant to Chapter 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).
For positions that require operation of motor vehicle to transport consumers to recreational, educational &/or occupational activities, a valid driver's license is required.
