Summary:

The Theater & Studio Senior Coordinator is responsible for supporting day-to-day operation of School of Communication's (SOC's) Doyle Forman Theater and SOC's studios and postproduction facilities. They also facilitate the production and postproduction of live and recorded events in the theater and Media Innovation Lab (MIL), including acting as technical director and sound engineer. This includes, but is not limited to, postproduction editing, preproduction graphics, establishing, testing, and monitoring live streaming services during events.

The senior coordinator also provides production and postproduction support to staff, faculty, and students. Under the supervision of the Media Services Manager, the Theater & Studio Senior Coordinator helps maintain production and post-production equipment in the Media Production Center (MPC) and MIL, including the MPC Studio. Participates as a crew member on Studio and MIL student/faculty/client productions. This position also supports equipment demonstrations and outreach.

This position liaises with the SOC Event Planning Manager to coordinate and support events that take place in SOC theater, production and studio spaces.

The incumbent trains student workers on studio equipment, theater operations, and classroom technology support and troubleshooting, under general supervision of Media Services Manager and/or Manager of Technology.

Essential Functions:

  • Studio and Theater Operations: Provides daily operational support of SOC's Doyle Forman Theater as well as SOC's studios and postproduction facilities. Facilitate the production and postproduction of live and recorded events in the theater and MIL, including acting as technical director and sound engineer. This includes, but is not limited to, postproduction editing, preproduction graphics, establishing, testing and monitoring live streaming services during events. Provides production and postproduction support to staff, faculty and students. Under the supervision of the Media Services Manager, incumbent also helps maintain production and postproduction equipment in MPC and MIL, including the MPC Studio. Supports Equipment Room demonstrations and outreach. Troubleshoots technical problems. Initiates and implements operational "best practices", and in consultation with manager coordinates with service contractors to handle major technical problems.

  • Event and Media Production Support: This position liaises with the SOC Event Planning Manager to coordinate and support events that take place in SOC production, theater and studio spaces. Coordinates with Media Services Manager on video/audio production of SOC student, curriculum-based and/or faculty-produced events or productions. Participates as a crew member on Studio and MIL student/faculty/client productions.

  • Supervision of part-time support staff. Hires, trains and supervises student and part-time staffers.

  • Other duties as assigned in support of SOC strategic priorities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-time 35 hours/week.

  • Non-exempt.

Salary Range:

  • $26.47 - $31.77 per hour, commensurate with expereince.

Supervisory Responsibility

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with specialization in theater, video, and/or live sound production.

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Six months or more of supervisory experience

  • Expertise with video projection equipment, simple theater lighting setups, and microphone placement as well as live sound mixing.

  • Experience in video pre-production, production, and post-production, and organizing all media assets.

  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud programs related to video, sound, photo and graphic design.

  • Must be able to lift video equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
