The Field Service Technician performs maintenance and repairs complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment located at an off-site, field location. Responsible for communicating repair options to customers, ordering correct parts and completing the repair in an efficient, timely manner in order to satisfy customer needs and achieve department profitability goals.
Essential Functions:
Advises customer of problem areas and recommend repair solutions, gain customer approval and order appropriate parts in order to repair equipment in a timely manner
Prepares machine for service work utilizing proper safety procedures (locks, blocking, lock-out procedures) in order to avoid injury
Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturer's specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions and maintains equipment and components
Maintains good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
Maintains company equipment - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of dirt-engaging equipment, aerial, and lifting equipment
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Quality control analysis skills
The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Education and Experience:
More than five years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred
High school/equivalent diploma or trade school diploma preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Travel:
Frequent travel to customers' location
Valid driver's license
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders
Be able to safely maneuver and work underneath equipment
Routinely reacts to vis
