  • Summary:
    Supports contracted and internal programs by developing and validating new electronic, electro-mechanical, pyrotechnic, and explosive devices. This support includes the development of the Requirements Verification Traceability Matrix (RVTM) for programs, developing all-encompassing Test Engineering Management Plans (TEMP) for each program, planning and performance of detailed tests identified in the TEMP to verify performance of the item-under-test over the required range of operating and environmental conditions. The Test Engineer 3 will work with the junior engineering staff to teach them the proper approach to testing and lead individual test groups to ensure they are properly focused. Incumbent is highly integrated into the product development teams to ensure that designs include features for testing both in development and in production.

  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promotes and maintains high level of safety, morale and workmanship among all employees.

  • Provides necessary training to assure maintenance of skills necessary to test products. Is safety leader and point of contact for all test operations

  • Provides direction, support and resources necessary to support Production and Engineering testing requirements.

  • Works with the engineering team to define the test requirements for current or proposed programs.

  • Performs work which involves conventional engineering practices, but which may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional approaches, and difficult coordination requirements. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in specialty areas and a good knowledge of principles and practices of related electrical engineering disciplines.

  • Designs electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for aerospace and defense applications.

  • Develops applications of controls, instruments, and systems for new products.

  • Designs and directs fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determine methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.

  • Supports the functional, performance and acceptance testing of engineering development hardware.

  • Takes a leadership role over multiple test programs and test teams.

  • Planning and performance of detailed test programs to verify performance of electrical or mechanical components over the required range of environmental conditions.

  • Is fully conversant in data acquisition systems, transducer and sensor operation as well as test circuit and instrumentation setup. Supports capital equipment purchase planning and execution.

  • Troubleshoots test and operating system anomalies in real time.

  • Generates and delivers presentations and writes clear and concise reports. Prepares technical documentation required by customers.

  • Prepares technical information for design reviews, customer meetings, and reports.

  • Maintains a well-organized, neat and safe work area. Immediately terminates any unsafe activities and advises the EH&S contact of the same.

  • Demonstrates and promotes teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes.

  • Basic knowledge of mechanics and chemistry as applies to test activities. Must have a detailed understanding of instrumentation and safety devices and procedures used in test.

  • Able to troubleshoot and define corrective action for problems observed during test related to instrumentation, equipment and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a team and across all levels of the organization.

  • Self-starter, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment, with minimal direction.

  • Position may require extended work hours and/or travel in the accomplishment of work assignments.

  • Strong leadership, independent thinking, organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent analytical, technical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lead, train, mentor, coach and motivate personnel.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in the English language

  • Must be capable of writing and reviewing detailed procedures and work instructions; able to prepare and understand schedules and technical materials related to test lab operations; able to read engineering, drawings and parts lists.

  • Computer proficiency (MS Office applications

  • Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Detailed knowledge of the safety aspects of handling hazardous materials, solid propellants, solid propellant devices and other energetic systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to use technical and problem solving skills to develop performance models of components and subsystems using commercially available mathematical modeling software.

  • Ability to work with other functional areas to define hardware requirements and assist in performing development tests.

  • Ability to translate general customer requirements into products, specific requirements and program elements.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced independent atmosphere. Ability to lead test operations and test support teams.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in the English language.

  • Computer proficiency (MS Office applications

  • Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel in an efficient and effective manner.

This position will be responsible for conducting design reliability testing, analyzing data and creating test reports. In this role, the Reliability Test Engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert in the test-engineering group and will work closely with the R&D team. Familiarity with statistical tools and design of experiments is a requirement. Good communication skills and sound judgment skills are a must. Principal Responsibilities: * Lead and promote design for reliability efforts * Provide input for product reliability plans and associated Verification and Validation testing * Author HW test protocols for system, functional, component, and cycle tests * Define and apply statistical methods for sample size justification and analysis of results * Design automated mechanical and electrical test fixtures and data collection for complex HW and automated system cycle testing * Execute HW test protocols for automated and manual tests.
