What You'll Be Doing:
As the Test Engineer, we are looking for a passionate, self-starter person who will develop and deploy test methods and standards throughout the Beauty business unit that will ensure products meet performance specifications. This includes being accountable for creating new test methods, fixtures, and executing the tests. This person will work in the Research and Development group to ensure tests are established prior to the product development definition phase gate is completed.
Test Engineer Key Responsibilities:
Conduct testing: Run testing per standards or as part of developing the standards. Work with lab technicians and lab managers to execute testing.
Develop test fixtures and tests based on the product specifications: Create, develop, and collaborate with Shared Services to maintain Engineering Test Methods (ETM) that adequately fulfill product requirements. Design and build test fixtures to execute tests that ensure robust test results through collaboration with the New Product Development team, Engineering Services, and other key stake holders. This should include automation when practical.
Collaborate with Engineering and Innovation team to provide feedback on designs beyond just test results and suggest go-forward solutions: Provide feedback based on testing results and first-hand experience of running the tests. Work with Advanced Quality Engineer to ensure test plan is robust for the product specifications.
Proactively review ETMs for review and improvement: Audit the current ETMs and prioritize which should be reviewed and potentially updated to meet current product specification needs.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Requirements For Consideration:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
2+ years of experience test engineering.
3+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering.
Possess knowledge of consumer products.
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Must possess proactive attitude and be a self-starter in exploring new products and technologies.
Ability to handle multiple projects and remain flexible and adaptable.
Strong communication skills. Must have the ability to provide concise and accurate status and direction on projects, written and oral.
Requires strong mechanical and electrical design background. Knowledge of common consumer products, including hair dryers, curling irons and styling brushes is a plus.
Knowledge of Gage repeatability and reproducibility, Design of Experiments, and other statistical methods is desired.
Knowledge of UL, ETL, CSA, and European compliance standards and other safety standards for related products.
Pro-E or other 3D CAD design skills.
Limited travel is required.
Experience using LabVIEW or equivalent data collection systems.
Programming language preferred i.e. C, C++, Python, Assembly, PLC, etc.
Working with outside test labs to coordinate 3rd party validation.
Competent using standard lab equipment such as an oscilloscope, programmable power supply, digital multi-meters, data acquisition equipment, various sensors including thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.
Capable of specifying and procuring lab equipment based on testing needs.
