General Description:
NOVA Workforce is seeking TESOL instructors to teach hybrid intensive teacher-development
workshops in task-based and problem-based learning as part of our non-credit TESOL Certificate Program www.nvcc.edu/workforce/tesol/index.html. Each workshop meets on two Saturday mornings. Morning 1 is remote synchronous with Zoom and Canvas. Morning 2 is in person at the Alexandria campus.
NOTE: This is not an ESL adjunct position; it is a TESOL (teacher-development) adjunct position.
This posting is designed to build a pool of potential instructors for TESOL. There may or may not be any positions currently available, however, in order to be considered for current/future openings, please follow the application process.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Teach hybrid intensive teacher-development workshops on Saturday mornings
Demonstrate and explain current ESL teaching methodologies in task-based and problem-based learning to student teachers.
Utilize the program PowerPoints, required readings, and rubrics.
Provide examples of teaching task-based and problem-based learning from your own experience.
Evaluate student teaching demonstrations and in-class written assignments using program rubrics.
Utilize Zoom and Canvas for course information and student assignments/resources.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSAs:
Extensive, demonstrable knowledge of communicative language teaching methodologies; task-based and problem-based.
1 or more years of TESOL (teacher-development) experience
Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills
Ability to work with groups of varying ages and skill levels - including differentiating instruction
Ability to utilize program rubrics to grade student teaching demonstrations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Required Qualifications:
Masters in TESOL or Masters in Linguistics with a minor in TESOL/TESOL Certificate.
Previous adult ESL teaching experience
Additional Considerations
Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel
