Examples of Important Duties

The Senior Systems Engineer will perform complex computer systems support work for agency information technology systems; operate automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, and server environment; train end-users, and develop and implement strategies, standards, and procedures to be used by the IT department.

Project Administration:

  • On a quarterly basis, accompanying Park Police officers on a "ride-along" to assess system/network needs and target areas of upgrades and updates to equipment.

  • Providing documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.

  • Initiating and managing IT projects proactively based on long term and short term needs of the organization.

  • Researching and recommending new approaches or new IT systems to improve the services the IT department is giving users.

  • Working with senior IT staff to assist with systems administration like SCCM, Active directory, CAD, RMS, LPR, BWC, NetMotion and others.

End-User Support:

  • Assisting users with conference room and training room audio visual needs.

  • Assisting new hires or transferred employees with all their IT needs and making sure everything is ready on their start day.

  • Providing expert support to users on all hardware and applications to include computers, printers, mobile phones, radios, MDTs, and other peripheral support.

  • Performing daily check-ins with the Communications Section and conducting walk through of data center to ensure equipment is operable. Identify any IT related issues and report it to the IT team.

System Administration:

  • Upgrading, installing, and configuring application, software, and computer hardware.

  • Managing system permissions, user account permissions and security group permissions.

  • Imaging computers and MDTs and documenting any issues or improvements.

  • Troubleshooting hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.

  • Overseeing the ticketing system to ensure tickets are assigned to the appropriate IT personnel or escalated to ensure that users are helped in a timely manner.

Important Skills and Characteristics:

Expert knowledge and support of:

  • Computer science principles and practices;

  • Design and development of computer and network systems including network architecture, standards, and protocols;

  • Computer, peripheral equipment hardware/software and system setup;

  • Network and computer preventive maintenance, troubleshooting techniques and procedures;

  • LAN/WAN management functions and procedures including network and error documentation, performance, and security management;

  • Network and operating systems and application software;

  • Utility software for monitoring system performance and diagnosing problems;

  • Safety practices when working with electronic equipment;

  • Backup and disaster recovery;

  • Cloud storage and application solutions;

  • Wireless communication systems;

  • Systems analysis and project management;

  • Internet/intranet design and management.

  • Microsoft Office Suite and other software typically used at the Commission;

  • Commission organization, policies, and procedures*.

  • Typically acquired or fully developed primarily after employment in this job class.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or any related field.

  • Five (5) years of experience in information technology support functions.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total seven (7) years.

  • Depending upon area of assignment, a valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.

  • Pass Commission medical examination.

Class/Specification: IT/Telecom Support Specialist III - Term Contract

May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting. Work involves walking, standing, bending, crouching, and may carry equipment and supplies up to 49 pounds. Work must be performed accurately and may require occasional overtime, after-hours, weekend, or on-call work.

Supplemental Information:

  • Temporary contract position working 30-37 ½hours a week; not to exceed 1950 hours in a year.

  • Regular work schedule is Monday - Friday; may require work on holidays, weekends, and evenings.

  • Position is eligible for benefits

  • A background investigation will be completed prior to hiring

  • A valid driver's license is required

  • Candidate must pass Commission medical examination
