The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is in search of a sociologist equipped with robust quantitative skills whose expertise advances knowledge of sociology through research and teaching, and a strong commitment to social justice.

We seek a candidate who studies the human implications of technology, including the role of intersecting inequalities of race, (dis)ability, sex/gender, age, and/or power in the development and implementation of new technologies. We have a preference for candidates who use computational methods and/or analyze "big data" in their research, but other methodological approaches are welcome.

Further, the ideal candidate will be prepared to collaborate on research and grant writing with the medical schools and the various university and college Centers and Institutes, such as the Hollybush Institute for Global Peace and Security, the Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights, Social Research Center, Socio-Behavioral, Security & Law Enforcement Cannabis Center and MAVRC - New Machine & Artificial Intelligence VR Center. Candidates must possess strong quantitative analytical skills; a commitment to excellence in research and teaching is essential.

Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an active and independent research program, teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.

Additional qualifications required for this role include:

  • The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Sociology or related discipline with a conferral date no later than July 1, 2024.

  • Strong quantitative analytical skills.

  • Engagement in research, teaching, and service, as is customary across all roles at Rowan University.

  • Demonstrated leadership in advocating for social justice and inclusion, particularly concerning our students.

  • Willingness to collaborate on research, grant writing, and teaching with department colleagues and Rowan's Colleges, Centers, and Institutes.

  • Contribution to developing and implementing curricula that promote advancements in sociology.

  • Dedication to enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

  • Active engagement within local communities as a leader promoting the relevance of sociology in addressing our changing society.

  • For full and associate professors, a robust history of externally funded research is expected.

  • For assistant professors, a clear potential and promising outlook for securing substantial extramural funding are essential.
