The School of Business and Professional Studies at Truman State University-Missouri's only public liberal arts and sciences university-seeks an energetic Assistant professor with a strong professional counselor identity to join our dynamic team as we effectuate a fully online master's program with specializations in school, clinical mental health, and rehabilitation counseling. The School invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in Counseling to start in Fall 2024. Summer teaching is available based on funding and faculty interest.

Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) teaching courses in CACREP core and specialty areas in an online format; (2) providing clinical supervision to master's level students; (3) advising and mentoring students; (4) producing a focused line of research leading to professional presentations, publications in refereed journals, and extramural funding; (5) working collaboratively with Counseling program faculty members to meet initial accreditation and the ongoing needs of the program; (6) participating actively in professional counseling organizations and in departmental, school, and university governance; and (7) developing courses and infrastructure for the rehabilitation program. Initial duties may vary in order of priority based on the needs of the program.

The Program: The Master of Arts in Counseling at Truman State University strives to equip caring, committed, competent, and culturally aware individuals with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required to become professional counselors in school and community settings. Students may either focus on a Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization, geared toward community-based work as Licensed Professional Counselors, a School Counseling specialization, geared toward meeting the academic, career, and personal/social needs of culturally diverse students in the elementary, middle, and second schools as Certified/Licensed School Counselors, or a Rehabilitation Counseling specialization, geared toward providing rehabilitation and vocational services for clients with disabilities as Certified Rehabilitation Counselors.

The program focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions involved in becoming a reflective practitioner in the art and science of counseling. To assist counselors-in-training in this process, particular attention is given to the counseling relationship; cultural awareness; skill development; ethical and reflective practice; and wellness, prevention, and intervention. Each specialization provides focused study on issues germane to that area of practice within the counseling profession. Students in the Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling degree plans complete the necessary curricular and experiential requirements to pursue entry-level licensure or certification. The program's first class in School and Mental Health began in August 2021. The first class in Rehabilitation will begin in August 2024.
