Position Summary

The University of Detroit Mercy Nurse Anesthesia Department within the McAuley School of Nursing (MSON). invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This full-time position (either 9 or 12-month/year) is for a highly-motivated educator for our program.

The MSON is part of the College of Health Professions and offers both undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing. Undergraduate tracks include traditional, second degree option and part-time. Graduate offerings include the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) exit tracks for family nurse practitioner, nursing & healthcare leadership, adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist, clinical nurse leader; post-graduate emergency nurse practitioner, post-master's DNP, and DNP in nurse anesthesia. The Master's Entry Advanced Generalist (MEAGN), most recently launched, offers pre-licensure preparation at the master's level. Since 2016, the MSN and DNP programs have been ranked in the U.S. News and World Report (March 2021) "Best Graduate Schools Ranking" and the Nurse Anesthesia Program was ranked #18 in the nation in the most recent ranking.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Nurse Anesthesia Department in the McAuley School of Nursing seeks an innovative scholar with demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in nurse anesthesia. The successful candidate will make significant contributions to our program in integrating the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of our students.

This full-time, tenure-track faculty position will include course responsibility in the nurse anesthesia curriculum including classroom, clinical, simulation learning, and online instruction as well as various administrative work as assigned by the department chair and/or the Dean. The flexibility of this position allows for, and encourages concurrent clinical practice.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • The candidate must be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

  • Doctoral degree in nursing (PhD, DNP or DNAP) or a doctoral degree in a closely related discipline and graduate degree in nursing.

  • Michigan RN license or ability to obtain as well as applicable national nurse anesthesia certification.

  • Relevant CRNA practice experience as indicated in the position summary.

  • Commitment to contribute to didactic and clinical learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have a record of commitment to teaching and scholarship in nurse anesthesia.

Physical Requirements

Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).

Work Environment

Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a standard office and classroom. Environment subject to change pending semester workload and inclusion/exclusion of clinical site to consideration of environment.

Licenses/Certifications

Michigan RN license or ability to obtain as well as applicable national nursing certification.
