The Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE, http://chase.unc.edu/), is seeking a Ph.D. chemist for a Research Project Manager position. CHASE is a multi-million-dollar Energy Innovation Hub funded by the U.S.

Department of Energy, and headquartered in the Chemistry Department at UNC Chapel Hill with research partners at Yale University, Brookhaven National Laboratory, the University of Pennsylvania, North Carolina State University, and Emory University. This position will manage research collaborations in the field of solar fuels research, communicate CHASE scientific accomplishments to senior stakeholders in academia, government and industry, and manage translational research initiatives for the Hub.

This opportunity requires experience in organizational and interpersonal skills, leadership, and a commitment to diversity, inclusivity and collegiality. This position will function with substantial independence and requires scientific expertise, leadership, independent decision-making, and the ability to develop and manage new research collaborations and projects. Extensive interaction with the 120+ researchers across the Center is expected, and the Research Project Manager will be responsible for closely engaging with the portfolio of CHASE research to enable collaborations, initiate new partnerships and communicate research accomplishments.

This position will manage CHASE Scientific and Technical Communications, and apply scientific expertise to write technical content and communicate CHASE scientific research advances to technical and non-technical audiences including sponsors, policymakers, academic leaders, and the public through a range of electronic, print and web media formats. The position will manage scientific conferences, outreach programs, and develop scientific and programmatic content to present and promote energy research to external scientific communities.

This position will engage with CHASE researchers from an intellectual property perspective, identify technologies for patent protection, and interface with technology transfer offices at UNC and our partner institutions to seek commercialization opportunities and partnerships. This opportunity will initiate and manage research collaborations with faculty and researchers, both within CHASE and externally, in support of translational research and development, with the goal of accelerating scientific breakthroughs for the realization of liquid solar fuels.

Educational Requirements

A Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field, with a minimum of three years of research experience in physical or inorganic chemistry, or a closely related field. Experience in electrochemistry, photochemistry and/or solar fuels research is preferred.

Candidate must be enthusiastic, conscientious, have superior oral and written communication skills and demonstrate eagerness to work as part of a team. Work history should demonstrate a strong chemistry background in fields relevant to energy research and experience in scientific writing, including significant contributions to research papers, research proposals, and/or post-award reports.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of three years working in translational research, commercialization, and/or science communication. Experience with scientific intellectual property management is preferred.

Candidate must be enthusiastic, conscientious, and have superior oral and written communication skills. Candidate should demonstrate eagerness to work as part of a team. Work history should demonstrate a strong scientific background in fields relevant to energy research, experience in proposal writing, post-award reporting and scientific writing. Experience with outreach, development, conference planning, website design and social media would be of benefit.

Summary: The Care Management Assistant facilitates arrangements for post-acute services for patient and coordinates requested services for post-discharge. Responsibilities: 1. Assist in Facilitating Discharge Planning - Assists Care Management team with administrative support in arranging for discharge of patients including but not limited to durable medical equipment, Home Health, facility referrals and transfers, transportation, and infusions. Reviews work list for referrals throughout the day. Completes all appropriate documentation for routine referrals and prepares documents for post-acute services. Documents all discharge planning activities and communications according to department standard. 2. Assist in Utilization Management Process - Provides information required to insurance companies as requested by Utilization Manager or Care Manager or as per policy. Communicates and documents authorizations. Communicates with Care Manager and Utilization Manager for additional clarification as needed. Determines benefits for post-acute care. Completes follow-up on post-acute care authorization. Escalates potential barriers to discharge to the Care manager as identified. Follows escalation process to department leadership. Collaborates with Care Manager, Social Worker, and/or utilizes estimated discharge report to track discharges. As assigned, administers second Important Message from Medicare (IMM) within two days of discharge. Documents second IMM was administered. 3. FL2 for Long Term Care and Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) - Completes identified sections of documents as requested by Care Manager and/or Social Worker. Sends completed forms from Care Manager and Social Worker to the state for review. Monitors status. Documents delivery/completion and notifies Care Manager and Social Worker. 4. Other Duties - Assists with other duties as assigned by Care Management leadership. Supports Care Managers, Social Workers, and Utilization Managers as needed. Identifies Avoidable Delays and notifies Care Manager and/or Social Worker of delay and root cause. Completes and transmits other documents as needed. 5. Prioritize Daily Activities - Participates in daily Care Management Touchpoint with Care Managers, Social Workers, and Utilization Managers. Discusses referred cases, including, patient status, barriers to discharge, payer communication, escalations and support needs. Reviews insurance coverage updates on all appropriate patients, as assigned. Regularly evaluates work list and re-prioritizes items for the day. Reviews patient census for each service Care Management team, prioritizing communication needs. Reviews discharge planning priorities.
