UVA Temps is an in-house agency that recruits a labor force of diverse, qualified candidates and places them in a range of temporary positions across the University.

Temporary Labor/Maintenance/Housekeeping assignments can vary in length lasting from a few days to an indefinite time period. They can be part-time or full-time, and require varying skill sets ranging from entry-level to advanced expertise. The needs of our business partners vary, and employees of diverse skills are needed for different assignments. Below are some of the positions which UVA Temporary Trades employees assume:

  • Security Guard

  • Plumber (Assistant/Journeyman/Master Levels)

  • Electrician (Assistant/Journeyman/Master Levels)

  • Carpenter (Assistant/Journeyman/Master Levels)

  • HVAC/Sheet Metal Mechanic (Assistant/Journeyman/Master Levels)

  • Mason (Assistant/Journeyman Levels)

  • Grounds keeping/Landscaping

  • Recycling

  • General Maintenance

  • Fire System Technician

Minimum Qualifications Required

Skills & Abilities:

  • Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position and able to follow written and oral instructions.

  • Demonstrated level of professional customer service and interpersonal communication skills

  • Keen attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality while managing competing priorities

  • Ability to communicate and work alongside faculty, staff, students, patients, vendors, and outside guests of the University in an effective and professional manner.

Preferred

Education: High School Diploma, Certification, Professional Licensure, or equivalent education, training and experience

Skills & Abilities:

  • One year or more work experience in professional field of expertise

  • Experience with University of Virginia policies, procedures

  • At least 4 years of experience and/or journeyman or master certification to be considered for a skilled trade position

VIEW JOBS 3/8/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-06T00:00 The University of Virginia's Health System Physical Plant zone has multiple opportunities for Trades Utility Senior Workers to work in our University Hospital. Trades Utility Senior Workers provide support to zone mechanics and other employees in support of zone maintenance. The incumbent supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities. The Trades Utility Senior Worker performs skilled repair and maintenance tasks in one or more specialized trades/utilities areas and performs semi-skilled, general repair and maintenance tasks in other trades/utilities areas. The incumbent will have working knowledge in the use of a variety of diagnostic tools, instruments, equipment, hand and power tools. The ability to understand and read blueprints and drawings is also essential. Duties Include: * Assist skilled journey-level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup. Incumbent can address specialized areas within a specific trade, such as quality and temperature control. * Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects. * Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders. * Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders. * Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines. * Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with the supervisor. * In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Position Compensation Range: $17.30 - $20.20 Hourly Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of four years of work experience in at least one building trade. Proficiency in installation, maintenance, and repair of building surfaces, including painting, sheetrock, wall coverings and plaster is also required. Experience working in a hospital setting is preferred. Licensure: Valid Driver's License. For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, including a health screen prior to their start date. Physical Demands: The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
