ORINDA UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST - RESOURCE SPECIALIST Duties and Responsibilities Teaching Responsibilities Participates in the assessments of students' educational needs upon referral. Refers on to appropriate DIS (Designated Instruction and Services) personnel in all areas of suspected disability.

Assists with the planning of IEPs (Individual Education Programs). Develops appropriate goals and objectives for students. Provides individualized and small group instruction and services at assigned site for students found eligible for special education. Monitors progress of pupils in the special education program regularly and reports progress to parents at grading periods.

Uses appropriate materials and strategies suited to the needs of individual students in order to promote learning and progress on IEP goals. Provides appropriate support for students on the ISP caseload to access the general education curriculum in the regular classroom. Coordinates special education services for students at assigned site by facilitating and discussing assessments, IEP, program development, and program monitoring.

Assists with assuring site compliance with Federal, State and SELPA regulations regarding special education procedures, eligibility and services to students. Consults with general education teachers to assist with adaptations in the regular classroom and to maintain accommodations/modifications for identified students' educational and student management needs. May participate in the site Student Study Team as a resource for teachers in modifying programs for their classrooms.

Assists with the acceptance and inclusion of students with specials needs by site staff, students and parents. Provides information on other resources, alternative educational programs, and on pre-vocational and vocational resources and programs available in the district. Provides appropriate and needed staff development and inservice for the site about special education methods, materials, strategies, behavior management techniques, individual student needs, and handicapping conditions.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST - RESOURCE SPECIALIST Page 2 Professional Competencies Participates in professional growth activities that are especially appropriate to improve and enhance teaching skills. Utilizes a background of extensive knowledge about the normal learning processes. Utilizes appropriate background and skills in the identification of learning difficulties, and of teaching or remediation skills needed to promote students' learning up to capabilities.

Works effectively with the principal and with others to promote the development of suitable educational programs for students identified as having exceptional needs. Guides and manages the special education instructional assistant assigned to the program and coordinates services provided by the assistant. Additional Responsibilities Provides all services for the caseload as stated in the SELPA plan.
