Job Summary:

Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join the GMP Operations Kilo Laboratory in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will be a highly productive, results-oriented individual, able to multi-task, and generate and implement original ideas that contribute materially to the success, development, and scale-up of drug substance candidates. Excellent communication, organization, and planning skills; a high level of technical aptitude; and a strong hands-on work ethic are required to succeed in this position

Key Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently carry out development and scale-up activities for synthetically derived compounds, including raw materials, intermediates, and drug substances in support of cGLP or cGMP studies.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Ability to accurately follow SOPs and verbal instructions.

  • Safely and compliantly implement new synthetic routes and procedures on compressed timelines at both the bench and Kilo Lab scales.

  • Ability to identify and prospectively troubleshoot problematic chemistry and scale-up issues.

  • Demonstrated understanding of common Kilo Lab equipment, processing methodologies, and best practices.

  • Working knowledge of modern analytical techniques used to support synthetic organic processing (HPLC, NMR, etc).

  • Generate effective scientific hypotheses to pursue desired synthesis or manufacturing goals and set new experimental direction based on results.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPs and maintain excellent laboratory records and supporting documentation.

Basic Qualifications

  • A BS with 2+ years of relevant work experience or an MS with 0-2 years relevant work experience. Hands-on experience in a Kilo Lab or Pilot Plant environment highly preferred.

  • The ability to successfully interact and collaborate within an interdisciplinary scientific team environment comprised of organic, physical, and analytical chemists; chemical engineers, project team members; and manufacturing personnel.

  • Proven communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

VIEW JOBS 11/13/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-02-11T00:00 This position will provide Process Analytical Technology (PAT) support for drug product development, clinical manufacturing for late stage products and commercial manufacturing. Specifically, the role focuses on execution of the automated control strategy and all PAT methods, automation, and data reporting during continuous manufacturing. Additionally, the role supports investigations into all manufacturing related deviations and the implementation of CAPAs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide technical and process knowledge to support manufacturing/facilities investigations and the implementation of CAPAs * Interacting with the Technical Operations and Analytical Development functions to continuously assess the appropriateness of PAT models used for IPC and RTRT through in-process and batch-to-batch trending * Supporting the development and validation of automated data reporting related to continuous manufacturing * Troubleshoot analytical methods with the assistance of manager when necessary * Develop technology applicable to project work * Support method validations and transfers, as needed * Participates in instrument qualifications * Maintains accurate notebook entries and adheres to governing SOPs * Authors and reviews SOPs, analytical methods, protocols, and reports * Performs PAT Operator tasks (on-floor support) during GMP manufacture, including coverage on rotating shiftwork (First shift: 6:30am-3pm and Second Shift: 2:30PM-11PM) * Review PAT data obtained during GMP manufacture to support product disposition TECHNICAL AND COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS: * Bachelor's Degree in a pharmaceutical science or engineering discipline * 1-3 years experience in a GMP manufacturing facility * Understand cGMP concepts and general practices * Experience in Solid Oral Dosage manufacturing * Knowledge and experience in NIR spectroscopy * Knowledge of various laboratory equipment * Knowledge of troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and analytical methods * Demonstrate good communication skills both oral and written * Present study information to internal Group/Department meetings on areas of expertise * Technical Expert for data review and interpretation Vertex Pharmaceuticals Boston MA
