Position: Temporary Road Maintenance Worker

Location: Libertyville, IL

Salary: $22.77/hour

Job Summary:
Lake County is seeking nine temporary road maintenance workers.

The employment dates are December 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019. These positions perform a variety of maintenance and traffic tasks related to the preservation and upkeep of County highways, bridges, drainage structures and other highway features, and DOT facilities. These positions perform semi-skilled work in operating tools and highway maintenance.

They also perform essential snow and ice control operations. All duties are performed in accordance with the county safety code and established safe work practices. The regular hours of work are Monday through Friday from 6:30am until 3:00pm. During the snow and ice control call-outs these positions are on a 24-hour on-call- status.

The candidates must have the ability to operate snow plow trucks with plows and salt spreaders, tractors, chippers, compressors, jack hammers, generators, etc. The candidates must also have the ability to wash, grease and assist in maintenance/servicing equipment including minor repairs and preventive maintenance; the ability to repair, replace and patch asphalt and concrete surfaces and fill in aggregate shoulder ruts; the ability to direct and control traffic during road maintenance; the ability to remove and dispose of trash, dead animals and other debris found on highways; the ability to trim and chip trees and shrubs; the ability to work from ladders or scaffolding; the ability to perform difficult physical labor; the ability to work under extreme weather conditions and the ability to work overtime as required.

To be successful in this role you must have possession of a CDL Class B license with air brakes, Class A preferred, supplemented by a satisfactory driving record and a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); possess the ability to effectively problem solve and can work both individually and in a team atmosphere.

If so, this position could very well be for you: Position: Maintenance Supervisor # of Positions Available: 3 Location: Libertyville Salary: $81,595 - $97,956 Position Available: 12/1/2018 Job Summary: Responsible for supervising and developing work plans for the highway operations union workers performing maintenance, repairs, and traffic control work on County highways, bike paths and bridges. The regular hours of work are Monday through Friday from 6:30am - 3:00pm. During the snow and ice control call-outs this position may be on a 24-hour rotation. Becoming a Maintenance Supervisor will allow you to be involved with local government staff, ranging from municipalities and townships to other government agencies. Your day will consist of developing work plans and assignments, supervising staff, inspecting the County highways and bike paths, communicating with residents and vendors, preparing reports and oversee highway maintenance contracts. Keep abreast of the latest construction methods and technology in the road maintenance field. Work alongside and/or assist crews as needed with minor maintenance activities, in emergency or as needed. Meet and coordinate activities with the Traffic, Engineering and Construction departments at DOT. Perform annual performance evaluation on personnel. This position reports to the Highway Operations Manager. To be successful in this role you should have an Associate degree, or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education, or five years related equivalent work experience. Possession of a Class B CDL with air brakes or the ability to obtain in six months and a satisfactory driving record. Experience in road construction and maintenance is required.
