This is a non-merit position with the Department of Human Services

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services

The Department of Human Services

  • Glenwood Resource Center is looking to fill a Registered Nurse to assist the state.

Schedule: Variable, as needed.

Including nights and weekends. Must have valid Driver's, License Must have valid Nursing License Limited to 780 hours

  • Assess, analyze, plan and provide direct patient care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation) in compliance with professional standards of quality care.

Perform nursing procedures, including emergency care, within scope of practice. Communicates and collaborates with Physicians, Nurses, Administrators and other interdisciplinary treatment team members; receives and transcribes Physician orders; reports and documents client's condition, care and treatments provided/nursing interventions implemented and response to interventions.

Provides functional clinical supervision and guidance to the Licensed Practical Nurse and other unlicensed assistive personnel (i.e., certified medication aides and direct support staff) in the provision of health care and nursing procedures, including administration of medications by the Licensed Practical Nurse and the Certified Medication Aide.

Actively engages in performance improvement activities at facility, department and unit levels, collects and reports data and implements performance improvement measures. Participates in Nursing peer review process.

Participates in interdisciplinary treatment teams, work groups, nursing service teams and committees as assigned. Attends seminars, conferences and other training events to stay current in nursing practice standards and evidence based nursing care. Maintains current RN licensure, basic life support certification and other mandatory continuing education activities.

Completes Mandatory Reported of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse training as required by Iowa Code.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

The Department of Human Services - Glenwood Resource Center is looking to fill a Temporary Nurse Practitioner to assist the state. Licensure in the State of Iowa as a Nurse Practitioner. Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and CMS for National Provider Identifier under the supervision of Primary Physicians, responsibilities may include (but not limited to): * Provides medical services within the qualifications of the Physician Assistant, as delegated by an approved supervising Physician, provided by law and approved by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners * Assist the Physician by making patient rounds, noting patient progress; initiating, transcribing or executing standing or other orders and compiling and recording case summaries * Recognizes and evaluates situations or conditions which call for the immediate attention of the Physician; may initiate treatment procedures in emergency situations * Conducts physical examinations and interviews patients to collect historical and physical data; records and presents data to the Physician to aid in determining diagnostic or therapeutic procedures * Assesses, diagnosis and treats medical problems as delegated by a supervising Physician * Instructs and counsels patients regarding physical and mental health matters such as nutrition, disease, therapy and human growth and development * Performs routine therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations and the suturing and care of wounds * Prescribes or provides medications, or orders medications for patients as delegated by a supervising Physician * Completes necessary medical records/reports to document treatment provided to patients * Maintain on-call status at the direction of the Medical Director * Must maintain licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners Minimum Qualification Requirements Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Nursing and certification as a clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, nurse practitioner or registered nurse anesthetist; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with satisfactory completion of a formal advanced practice educational program of study in a nurse practitioner program and appropriate clinical experience as approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
