About Us:The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:

The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.

The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Saguaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.

The Role:

The Temporary Recreation Leader - Sports & Health position is to assist with the implementation of recreational programs and activities, enforcing safety and City policies and procedures, and providing guidance to program participants. Preparing recreation facilities, taking reservations, meeting rooms, fields and courts for planned activities and events; setting up sports equipment, audio visual equipment, tables, chairs and/or recreational equipment needed for scheduled activities.

Duties include:

  • Acts as a Sports Official and maintains order at games and contests

  • Participate in the preparation of ball fields to include putting out bases, chalking lines and operating lighting system.

This position requires: Availability to work any day of the week to include weekends, evenings and holidays. The traditional operating hours are between 12pm to 10pm.

This part-time position will work anywhere between 20 hours or less per week with no benefits.

Salary:

An hourly rate of $16.50

1.   Assist with supervision of youth and adult sports program participants.

2.   Assist Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Specialist with implementation of calendar activities.

3.   Assist with leading youth and adults participants in a variety of sport and recreational activities.

4.   Field site supervisor.

5.   Sports coach.

6.   Assist in maintaining and keeping sports complex fields playable during and after play.

7.   Ensures facilities and equipment are safe, clean, and arranged to meet the requirements of scheduled programs, activities, and events.

8.   Maintains responsibility for equipment at facility and ensures proper storage and inventory are completed daily.

9.  Provides customer service by communicating with the public, vendors, and internal staff; answering questions; notifying public of program changes and confirmation; registering participants for program



  1.    Knowledge of: The rules and regulations of various games such as: softball, baseball, volleyball basketball, soccer, and flag football

11.    Acts as a Sports Official and maintains order at games and contests.

12.    Participate in the preparation of ball fields to include putting out bases, chalking lines and operating lighting system.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have one year of experience in public recreation, or related field.  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

 Exposure to hot and varying weather conditions. Transports and sets up sports equipment onsite.  May occasionally encounter hostile or irate individual.
