Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Temporary On-Call Mail Clerk. The Temporary On-Call Mail Clerk position is responsible for retrieving mail from the Georgetown Post Office and is responsible for the distribution of all incoming mail and pick up of all outgoing mail throughout the Southwestern University campus. This position's additional duties include sorting and distributing mail and packages for students, faculty, and staff while providing customer service to the University community. This is a temporary on call, non-exempt, with no benefits position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Retrieve mail from the Georgetown Post Office.

  • Sorting mail and preparing for delivery route on campus.

  • Deliver mail to departmental offices.

  • Operate and inspect office mail vehicle. Contact Facilities if problems arrive.

  • Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

  • Provide customer service such as selling stamps, assisting students, faculty and staff with their mailing needs, helping opening their mailboxes, and find their combination in Self-Service.

  • Assist with data entry for package tracking, when needed (Data Entry Clerk).

  • Answer phones.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • One plus year's office/clerical or mail room experience.

  • Possess a Texas driver's license and a good driving record.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Experience computer skills, utilizing software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry over 20lbs.

  • Bend, stoop, stand, kneel, and reach.

  • Willingness to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, understand, follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Excellent Oral, written, interpersonal communication and telephone etiquette and listening, customer service skills.

  • Flexibility regarding changing priorities.

  • Organizational skills such as sort alphabetically and numerically.

  • Possess excellent memorization skills.
