Temporary Music Assistant

The Eastern Territorial Headquarters in West Nyack, NY has a temporary full-time position for a Music Assistant from mid-May through mid-August, 2024.

The Music Assistant would be a key component of the Territorial Music Department during the summer months. This individual would assist with important music department events, such as Star Search, Star Lake, Old Orchard Beach Camp Meetings and Summer Brass. A key component of the responsibilities would be to act as the assistant director of the Summer Brass Hands-on team.

Responsibilities

Assist Territorial Music Department in day-to-day operations

• Copying music for various camps and conservatories.

• Assist with filing and maintenance of Territorial and NYSB music library.

• Various secretarial duties as assigned.

Territorial Star Search

• Assist in copying of music, score sheets and guidelines for all Star Search competitions.

• Serve as an adjudicator/controller for Star Search event.

• Assist with equipment assignments and distribution.

Star Lake Musicamp Preparation

• Assist the Territorial Music Department in all aspects of Star Lake Musicamp.

• Copy Music and prepare scores/music folders for various ensembles.

• Assist with student auditions prior to start of camp as assigned.

• Assist with housing assignments for SLMC staff.

• Serve as SLMC staff member.

Summer Brass Team

• Assist the Territorial Music Secretary with overall details and scheduling for Summer Brass missions' team.

• Assist summer brass leader at various locations and stand in when Territorial Music Department member is not available.

• Organize music choices and printing for all required resources.

• Assist in arranging music as requested for Summer Brass team.

• Serve on staff at various music camp locations as decided by Territorial Music Secretary.

• Coordinate with various locations all details and responsibilities of the Summer Brass group.

• Communicate all responsibilities to Summer Brass team members.

• Coordinate devotions schedule for duration of summer.

Other Duties and Assignments

• Participate with Territorial Music Ensembles as needed.

• Assist in various recording studio projects as needed by members of the Territorial Music Department.

• Serve as a staff member at camps/conservatories, shadowing Terr. Music Dept. Staff.

• Connect with and Assist DMD's in camp/conservatory prep.

• Assistance with various correspondence regarding SLMC, OOB, etc.

• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.

• 1-3 years of related experience.

• Active Salvationist with a love for music and Salvation Army music ministry.

• Must be able to read music and lead groups of young musicians at music camps and conservatories.

• An understanding of music editing and recording would be beneficial.
