Summer Programs Voluntary Transfer Request

Summary:

The Marine Science Summer Camp Paraeducator will support the 2024 Marine Science Summer Camp, scheduled from July 15th to July 19th, 2024. The approximate daily schedule for camp Paraeducators is from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm, with students present in the building from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm.

The Paraeducator will assist students, teachers, and other certificated staff in implementing instructional goals, developing students' learning, physical, social, communication, and/or behavior skills, as well as bringing STEM concepts to life and fostering student curiosity in Marine Science. This position will support the Marine Science Summer Camp which will be offered at three middle schools (Cedar Heights, John Sedgwick, & Marcus Whitman) throughout the week, Monday to Friday. Paraeducators are expected to participate in the professional development, training, and preparation for the Marine Science Summer Camp scheduled for July 10th through 12th, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The selected candidate will work a minimum of 53.5 hours to meet the needs of this program and will be compensated at their hourly rate. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:

  • Days of Instruction = 32.5 hours (5 days of student instruction x 6.5-hour commitment per day)
  • Scheduled Teacher Training Hours = 14 hours (2 days of PD and training x 7-hour commitment per day)
  • Preparation Hours = 7 hours (1 day)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works under both direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines;

  • Leads, guides, and/or coordinates others;

  • Participates in the Marine Science Summer Program orientation and training;

  • Supervises students in the school setting for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.

  • Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (e.g. collecting and inputting data, attendance, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities related to learning goals and objectives.

  • Assist with lunch and snack breaks;

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility and safety for the education of a group of students throughout the summer program;

  • Oversees hands-on activities;

  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;

  • Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality;

  • Attends and supervises a field trip during the summer session;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;

  • Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits at 100 Course Level and above); OR completion of an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR have passed the State of Washington Para Pro Assessment;

  • Job-related experience is desired.

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.

Certificates:

  • First Aid/CPR Certification required;

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance).
