Manual Lathe Operator
This role is responsible for the manual machining of component parts for chain, electric or air operated Hoists and Crane Components.
Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations.
Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool holder (chuck, collets, or tool post).
Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.
Moves controls to position grinding wheel and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed.
Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and work piece.
Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications.
Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
Make minor mechanical or electrical repairs to equipment.
Inspection of parts, de-burring and/or operate secondary machines during machine idle time.
Move materials by hand, hand truck or overhead lifting devices when pertaining to own work to any location in the facility as designated by supervisor.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Must be able to read from complicated blue prints, sketches, or detailed written instructions
Must be able to operate a variety of machines such as drill press, hydraulic press, and pedestal grinder.
Ability to use measuring instruments such as rules, scales, square, tape, volt and ammeter, etc.
Required to produce a quality part.
Responsible for producing products that meet specifications
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with 2 - 4 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Position Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; vibration/ and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is common to the industrial machine shop/fabricating environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel may be required within Columbus McKinnon Corp's domestic footprint.
