GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The VITamin D and OmegA-3 TriaL (VITAL) is a randomized clinical trial investigating whether daily supplements of vitamin D3 and omega-3 fatty acids (Omacor fish oil, 1 gram) reduce the risks of cancer, heart disease, and stroke. The trial involves more than 20,000 men and women living throughout the U.S.A. The VITAL Breast Study is examining the impact of the randomized treatments on mammographic density by collecting mammographic images and reports from a cohort of the VITAL Study population. Working under the supervision of the VITAL Breast Study Research Assistant, the employee in this position will provide clerical and data entry support for this large-scale clinical trial involving 4,000 participants who are recruited via mailings of requests for authorization to release mammogram records. Responsibilities include opening and sorting incoming mail, updating participant status in the study tracking system, inputting radiology facility information in excel for mail merges, matching consents with mammogram requests to mail out, filing participant mammogram images and reports, and performing quality control checks.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Opens and sorts incoming mail from individuals who are invited to participate in a large-scale clinical trial.
Manually reviews the data provided by respondents to ensure that the information can be read accurately by the scanning software.
Utilizes the data recognition software to assess the accuracy of the "captured" data and makes edits as necessary, once the questionnaire data has been optically scanned.
Confirms the quality of the data before exporting to the study database.
Performs other clerical duties as assigned such as manual entry of data, photocopying, and filing.
Minimum of a high school diploma. College enrollment preferred.
Ability to understand the underlying principles of a research study and apply those principles to the work domain
Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.
