General Description The Orange County Fleet Services Department has an opening for an Inventory Clerk.This classification is primarily responsible for providing clerical tasks to support the operations of the Orange County Fleet Service Department. An employee of this class is primarily responsible for performing administrative tasks in support of Fleet Services in the inventory management division.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Management & Fleet Services Business Officer II with some leeway for independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions. This position does not supervise staff. Does related work as required.

Compiles and maintains records of type, quantity, and value of material, or supplies stocked at Fleet Services. Counts merchandise, material, or supplies in stock and posts totals to inventory records using FASTER software.

Compares inventories with what's on office records. Verifies computer data with physical count of stock and adjusts errors in computation, investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies, if any, to Business Manager. Receives and inventories stock.

Performs other duties as required. Manages and organizes fleet bulk bins; including tires. Locates packing slips, confirms deliveries, and pulls and turns in packing slips.

Monitors low inventory levels and communicates out of stock items with Fleet Manager or Business Officer. Full Performance of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Familiarity with a County, City or Commercial fleet and where assigned; ability to drive County passenger vehicles. Familiarity with relevant a County, City or Commercial organizations policies and guidelines.

Must be organized with the ability to prioritize and execute daily assignments and work activities efficiently with interruptions in a stressful environment. Ability to enter data and maintain spreadsheets and calendars with accuracy. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with co-workers, outside departmental staff, also contractor and the public. Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment; integrity; resourcefulness; accuracy; thoroughness and the physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND four (4) years of work experience in a front office performing bookkeeping and clerical functions. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Must have excellent customer service skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.

Physical Requirements and Possible Hazards PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions(with or without reasonable accommodation) of standing, sitting, walking, typing, grasping, talking, hearing, handling, reaching and repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Must possess the visual acuity to perform extensive reading, prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting and operate a computer terminal.
