Position Title: Temporary Development Associate

Reports To: Development Manager

Department: Development

Status: NON-EXEMPT - HOURLY

Schedule: 20 hours per week through January 31, 2025. Possibility to occasionally work up to 30 hours per week during busy season (Sep-Dec), depending on need and availability. Specific schedule, during weekday business hours, to be agreed upon with supervisor. This position will work on-site at Raphael House's confidential location.

Salary Range: $23.00 - $24.55 per hour, depending on experience (above $23.62 per hour reserved for those who exceed Qualification criteria for position); additional $.50 per hour offered if bilingual in English and Spanish. Hiring wage is determined using a standardized process that considers employment and lived experience, applicable knowledge and skills, training, and education. Staff are paid monthly.

Position Summary:

The Temporary Development Associate is a short-term position through January 31, 2025. Under the supervision of the Development Manager and in collaboration with the development team, the Development Associate aids in gift processing and data entry, donor acknowledgement and stewardship, reporting and database maintenance, communications, and fundraising events at Raphael House of Portland.

We couple these direct services with a Prevention Education program that teaches thousands of teens each year about equitable relationships and consent-with the goal of stopping domestic violence before it starts.

Essential responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Development Coordinator to process donations (cash, checks, credit cards, wire transfers, in-kind, gift cards, etc.), code and enter gifts, and maintain up-to-date supporter information in our donor database and auction software.

  • Print acknowledgement letters and envelopes, prepare with supplementary materials, secure signatures from the Development Director or Manager, and finalize for mailing. Track gift batches to ensure all donors are acknowledged in a timely manner (within 48-72 hours).

  • Assist the Development Coordinator with tracking of Gala auction items, sponsorship, tables, ticket sales, and special appeal gifts using auction software.

  • Support with donor stewardship through gratitude calls, emails, cards, texts, and in-person assistance.

  • Assist with soliciting in-kind donations (for general agency needs and Gala auction), meeting with donors to accept items, transporting donations in/out of our building, and helping at our twice monthly Donation Drop-off events, as needed.

  • Generate reports and lists using our donor database and auction software, as needed. Utilize these to support with donor communication and retention, moves management, and gift tracking.

  • Assist with Raphael House and outside-organized fundraising events, including at our annual Gala in September.

  • Work with the Development Coordinator to track inventory of letterhead, envelopes, and supplementary print materials to ensure sufficient stock levels and initiate re-ordering.

  • Work closely with the Development team on overall fundraising efforts and support with projects, campaigns, outreach, and communications as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others, including with team members, staff, volunteers, Board, and donors.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of work, education, volunteer, or lived experience in fundraising and development, customer service, data management, communications, and/or a related field. Basic understanding of fundraising strongly preferred.

  • Lived experience as a survivor of interpersonal violence and/or trafficking highly valued.

  • Bilingual/bicultural highly valued. Additional $.50 per hour offered for bilingual English-Spanish speakers.

  • Excellent attention to detail and proofing skills to document, review, and track gifts of all types and sizes, and to identify errors.

  • Strong writing and editing skills. Ability to thoughtfully engage donors in-person and in writing.

  • Experience utilizing, updating, and maintaining database management systems and event software preferred but not required (we utilize Donor Perfect and GreaterGiving).

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to learn new technology as needed.

  • Completion of 40-hour domestic and sexual violence advocacy training, or equivalent to be approved by the Executive Director OR expectation that training will be completed within one month of employment (training provided - paid time).

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.

  • Ability to commute throughout the Portland metro area and beyond to fulfill job responsibilities required. Preferred but not required are current valid driver's license along with safe driving record.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds consistently.

  • Flexibility to work occasional evening events as needed.

Work Environment:

This position will work in a fast-paced setting. Candidate must be able to work under deadlines and stress-inducing conditions. Must be able to lift 40 pounds consistently and move throughout our building, event and partner agency locations, and other sites. A domestic violence agency environment can potentially shift from stable to highly-charged and all employees must remain flexible, calm, and creative.
