The Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) was established in order to provide a summer enrichment experience in the sciences and mathematics for hardworking Pennsylvania high school students and to encourage them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The program provides instruction in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science, with emphasis on collaborative learning and team research.

Our particular focus is on five Core Subject Areas of:

  • Biological Sciences

  • Chemistry

  • Computer Science

  • Mathematical Sciences

  • Physics

The PGSS is a 5-week STEM enrichment program. We are seeking Chemistry Storeroom Attendant/Event Assistant for the 2020 session. The Chemistry Storeroom Attendant/Event Assistant will work under the direction of the PGSS Chemistry Faculty and the Program Director.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Pre-program inventory and post-program inventory of glassware and chemicals

  • Distribution of glassware and chemicals during laboratory sessions

  • Keeping the storeroom clean and in order at all times.

  • Helping out at the Closing Banquet (Friday evening, August 3, 5:00 8:00 PM) by taking tickets and money from guests before the banquet.

The regular scheduled time is 2:30 5:30 P.M. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the first four weeks of the program. Additional time is scheduled, as needed, before the start of the program, during the program and during the fifth week of the program, for inventory, setup and cleanup.

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of college-level chemistry laboratory experience.

Current undergraduate chemistry majors or high school chemistry teachers are especially encouraged to apply.
