This position is to assist with the molecular biology activities of the diagnostic virus testing lab for berry crops and grapes at the Micro-propagation and Repository Unit. This includes collecting plant tissue samples from the greenhouse and extracting nucleis acids from plant tissue using standardized protocols. Other activities may include core molecular techniques; setting up PCR and RT-PCR reactions and running agarose gels as well as lab equipment maintenance and washing labware. The successful candidate will be coordinating daily activities with the supervisor and other staff members in the Unit.

  • B.S. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

  • Must be able to work in the lab, greenhouse and the field

  • Must be meticulous, punctual and reliable

  • Must have a strong interest in learning new things related to plant molecular biology

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Software

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to search and read scientific literature pertinent to the position

VIEW JOBS 1/10/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-10T00:00 The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) Apprenticeship Program is seeking highly-motivated individuals from a variety of different backgrounds to participate in a hands-on work and study program that trains participants in many aspects of sustainable agriculture production and research. The majority of each apprentices’ work will focus on a particular production system at CEFS, although locations will vary. Apprenticeship appointments are for a period of time of six months (24 weeks), and are located in Goldsboro, NC or Raleigh, NC.
