This position is designated as an agent of the Treasury Department. The Teller will be responsible for the receipt, recording, and the required reporting of all collections for credit to the accounts of the patients and acts as collection agent to recover amounts due.

They will also be personally financially responsible for the performance of all duties related to the advances, collections, payments, safekeeping, and accountability of money in his/her care. The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Issues payment of cash for certain designated classes of Fiscal Vouchers

  • Determines the correctness of all documents, checks, money orders, and negotiable instruments received in collection

  • Analyzes reports to determine fraudulent payments

  • Verifies records to settle and replenish the stock of currency with the Treasury and administrative channels in the hospital for other accounts

  • Maintains files, records, and reports

  • Communicates with patients, Veterans, employees and others to provide information customer service

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 15 days of the closing date of this announcement, 10/10/2018.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

  • Specialized Experience: . Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: A broad knowledge of a body of financial management regulations, practices, procedures, and policies concerning the receipt, disbursement and accountability of funds; General knowledge of operational functions and procedures such as those related to the preparation of awards, rate changes, stop payments, etc. sufficient to process all kinds of collections and disbursements; A basic knowledge and understanding of established and standardized bookkeeping, accounting procedures and accounting techniques sufficient to handle the duties such as reconciliations of accounts, collections and disbursements; A basic knowledge and understanding of established and standardized bookkeeping, accounting procedures and accounting techniques sufficient to handle the duties such as reconciliations of accounts, collections and disbursement of public funds and double entry recording of transactions; knowledge of office practices and procedures. This experience must be reflected by descriptions of your experience in your resume.
