Position Description/PD#: Teller/PD006930

Major Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Receives and verifies cash and check collections; ensures that collection vouchers contain proper accounting classifications and that all moneys collected balance.

  • Ensures proper signatures to verify collections and ensures that cash, checks, or other documents submitted with collection vouchers are acceptable.

  • Examines cash or checks for counterfeit suspicion, worn currency, or fraudulence.

  • Handles multiple types of vouchers in the receipt of funds.

  • Examines documents presented for disbursement of funds for completeness, presence of required supporting documentation, and validity of signatures.

  • Establishes identify of payees.

  • Verifies entries to ensure that amounts due and amounts paid out are in agreement.

  • Makes cash payments entering amounts and codes into computerized system.

  • Produces on demand checks for payees based on verification of supporting documents, and obtains signature of authorized agent.

  • Determines daily requirements for cash.

  • Controls cash and prepares documents to reflect cash transactions between the teller and the Disbursing officer.

  • Controls disposition of checks authorized and prepared for pick up by authorized agents.

  • Prepares the Cashier's Daily Activity Report.

  • Performs reconciliation, balancing, and auditing of receipts and disbursements in a large number of categories on a simultaneous basis, using automated systems and double entry accounting techniques.

  • Merges control records and balances amounts received from sources such as amounts received by mail or from impress fund.

  • Researches, traces, and corrects input, processing, or document errors. Instructs customers on correct procedures, complicated regulations, questions concerning partial payments, and/or documentation/identification requirements.

  • Receives, screens, and disposes of returned and undeliverable checks.

  • Traces lost checks and advises on stop payment actions.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/01/2024.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

  • Receives and verifies cash and check collections;

  • Ensures that collection vouchers contain proper accounting classifications and that all moneys collected balance;

  • Examines documents presented for disbursement of funds for completeness, presence of required supporting documentation, and validity of signatures;

  • Performs reconciliation, balancing, and auditing of receipts and disbursements;

  • Cash payments amounts and codes are entered into a computerized system. OR,

  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR,

  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. If you qualify by a combination, your experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary. Most tasks are performed while seated at a desk or table, although occasional walking and standing are required in visiting other offices, or in going to and from meetings and conferences.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled business office setting.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
