Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine, is a 120-bed teaching hospital located in Wheaton, Illinois. Dedicated to the delivery of physical medicine and rehabilitation, Marianjoy offers specialty programs for adult and pediatric patients recovering from illness or who require intensive therapy to regain their function and independence. Marianjoy rehabilitation programs include care for brain injury, spinal cord, orthopedic/musculoskeletal, stroke and neuromuscular. Marianjoy also has inpatient and outpatient pediatric rehabilitation programs and is one of the only Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)-accredited pain management programs in Illinois.

Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the Marianjoy rehabilitation clinicians deliver innovative, evidence-based treatment, maximizing recovery and promoting independence for patients. Marianjoy nurses are specialized in rehabilitation nursing which assists individuals affected by chronic illness and disability to maximize their health through health restoration, maintenance and promotion.

The TeleSitter/PCT Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-critically ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. Reinforces teaching previously taught by RN.

This is a part time .4 Day shift position. Scheduled to work 32 hours biweekly from 2:30pm-11:00pm

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Answers patient call lights and meets patient care needs with an appropriate sense of urgency.

  • Assists patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living promoting maximal independence.

  • Assists patient with application of assistive devices and prosthetics/orthoses according to individual patient program.

  • Performs preventive skin care program as directed by RN and report any changes in skin integrity immediately to the nurse.

  • Accurately calculates and documents calorie count, intake and output and patients' weights.

  • Assists patients with transfers and mobility activities utilizing appropriate techniques, precautions and assistive devices.

  • Assists patients with bladder and bowel elimination programs to including collection of laboratory specimens.

  • Accurately obtains and documents patients' vital signs.

  • Assists patients with completing menus daily within established timeframes.

  • Passes patient meal trays and HS snacks under the direction of the nurse.

  • Provide supervision and activities for patients in Caution Club.

  • Patient rounding: Circulate on the nursing units to monitor patients. Engage patient in activities as appropriate.

Communication

  • Maintains a therapeutic relationship to provide optimal customer-focused care.

  • Communicates effectively with patients at level appropriate to age and cognitive status, showing cultural sensitivity.

  • Interacts effectively with peers and other hospital staff to foster positive working relationships.

Infection Control/Patient Safety

  • Contributes to the safe, effective and professional delivery of patient care including use of safety/restrictive devices.

  • Follows Infection Control policies and procedures.

  • Maintains knowledge of Marianjoy's policies concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warning and general safety procedures.

Adaptability and Flexibility

  • Rotates to all units based on patient care needs.

  • Adjusts to changes in policy and procedure, unit and patient population.

Requirements:
Minimum: Current Nursing Assistant certification. Exception-if a nursing student, CNA is not required if two clinical rotations have been completed.

Education: Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure: Minimum: CERT CNA,CERT BLS

The template for this position is: Week 1: M, F, Sa Week 2: Su, M, Th, F Responsible for the complete nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, teaching, evaluation and documentation of patient care from a patient's admission through discharge. Integrates contributions of interdisciplinary team to assure best possible outcomes are achieved. Supervises and maintains a professional relationship with licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel. Clinical Practice * Utilizes the nursing process to provide coordinated patient care. * Delivers holistic care by demonstrating involvement of the patient and their family in a plan of care that is culturally sensitive. * Adheres to hospital and nursing department philosophies and policies. * Utilizes the documentation system to accurately reflect patient care planned for and delivered, as per policy and protocol. * Applies current technology, competencies and theory in the delivery of care. * Utilizes the documentation system to accurately reflect interventions delivered as per policy and protocol. * Participates in meeting patient care needs which will ultimately improve team effectiveness.
