Position Summary

Minnesota Oncology has an exciting opportunity for a

Telephone Triage Registered Nurse (1.0 FTE) Fridley Clinic

Minnesota Oncology offers its employees an exciting, fast-paced, and challenging work environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Addresses patient calls, portal messages, and emails in a timely manner concerning a wide range of symptoms/side effect related topics

  • Asks appropriate, open ended questions as well as utilizes computerized algorithms/pathways to assist in the assessment of patient's symptom and side effect management inquiries and documentation of such interventions.

  • Assesses urgency of patient symptoms/side effects and addresses them appropriately, aggressively managing them to prevent unnecessary emergency department and hospital utilization.

  • Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record.

  • Provides clear instruction and education to patients via the telephone.

  • Evaluates and determines if emergency care is needed, or if the patient can be seen in the outpatient clinic.

  • Collaborates with physicians via electronic communication, face to face, or the telephone to discuss patient care needs that cannot be independently and appropriately addressed using standing orders or practice protocols.

  • Set up same day and/or future provider/infusion room appointments to address symptom management concerns.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred

  • Minimum of three years nursing experience. Experience in an oncology environment is preferred.

  • Current or pending oncology certification preferred.

  • Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer.

  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in Minnesota.

  • Current CPR certification required.

This is a full-time position that is based out of our Coon Rapids location. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs routine office procedures and testing in a safe and effective manner. * Maintains a constant awareness of policies and procedures. * Effectively communicates via telephone and in-person in a courteous, prompt and polite manner. * Documents all information accurately in EMR. * Responds to voicemail in a timely manner. * Identifies common and recurring needs of the patient. * Keeps all clinical areas clean and properly stocked. * Identifies patient education needs and provide information. * Documents observations, actions and patient outcomes. * Handles information with discretion and maintains confidentiality. * Communicates effectively and professionally with providers, clinic director, nurse manager, co-workers and patients. * Analyzes work methods to effectively organize work, make improvements and correct problems. * Other responsibilities as assigned. ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ABILITIES TO EFFECTIVELY PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES: * Ability to perform routine office procedures in a safe and effective manner. * Knowledgeable in appointment scheduling and current insurance information. * Incorporates the use of technology into day-to-day tasks by using Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, NextGen and UroChart effectively and accurately. * Represent Minneosta Urology in a professional manner related to appearance, communication and the maintenance of patient and company confidentiality. * Ability to effectively communicate and work efficiently with direct manager, administration, providers, patients and staff. * Ability to analyze work methods to effectively organize work, make improvements and correct problems. * Regular attendance is required. * Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Qualifications/Education/Training/Licensure: * Graduate of an accredited licensed practical nursing program or an accredited medical assistant program. * LPN License or Medical Assistant Certification. * At least one year of previous clinical experience as a LPN or Certified Medical Assistant. * CPR Certification preferred.
