The Sales Specialist (Telephone Loan Processor) delivers member value thru telephone communication and serves as a primary contact point for members' new account requests. Demonstrates a highly motivated, positive, out-going, influential personality with a strong emphasis on sales and results orientation to ensure the credit union maximizes lending, new account, and sales opportunities with members who apply over the phone. Consistently demonstrates the ability to think independently, outside the box, by effectively responding to each individual member's unique situation. Commands a thorough knowledge of the lending, new account and overall service process to ensure maximum sales results. Demonstrates an unsurpassed commitment to exceptional member service and teamwork with each encounter. Is fully knowledgeable of all credit union products and services and is able to confidently offer appropriate solutions to fit member needs with adherence to operations policies and procedures. Is able to clearly and effectively communicate with members and all levels of staff in verbal and written form and is proficient with applicable technology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Telephone Services Professionally answer all incoming requests and applications for loans and new accounts whether received via telephone or thru the on-line channel. Communicate underwriting philosophies, lending decisions, approval stipulations, loan, deposit and associated products and services, credit bureau reports, credit protection products, loan and deposit rates, lending and new account polices.

  • Cross-Sales Identify opportunities for the expansion of the product and service relationship with all members and offer additional appropriate products. This includes additional account relationships as well as other products and services offered by the credit union.

  • Referrals - Identify opportunities for the expansion of the product and service relationship with all members and refer the member to the appropriate staff who are able to provide that product or service such as mortgages and wealth management/investment and insurance services.

  • Sales Success Uses strong interpersonal skills and influence to consistently achieve sales goals. Displays confidence in presenting appropriate solutions to fit members' needs. Maximizes opportunities to sell credit union products and services to benefit member and enhance quality and depth of member relationship and profitability.

  • Results Orientation Is keenly aware of personal, team, departmental and organizational-wide goals and is able to prioritize work to achieve funding goals. Demonstrates the ability to excel in a high stress environment and is able to meet goals and deadlines. Demonstrates professional persistence and overcomes obstacles to maintain above average closing ratios.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree preferred.

  • Two years related experience. Prior lending experience a plus.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Technologically Astute Demonstrates the ability to use technology to effectively and efficiently perform job functions.

  • Obtain Michigan credit life and disability insurance license within 6 months of hire date.

  • Obtain NMLS license within 9 months of hire date.

  • Able to work extended hours as scheduled.

  • Ability to work in a call center environment.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy environment with strong multi-tasking skills.

Included in these responsibilities is the oversight of the lending staff and ensuring that the generation and completion of the home equity application process is in accordance with established credit union policies and in compliance with agency requirements and stated and federal lending laws. Additional responsibilities include the overall relationship management and productivity of the Sales Team and Branch staff. * Coordinates and participates in branch and department meetings. Participates in Member Relationship Consultant meetings in regards to Home Equity Origination. Conducts LIVE meetings for Home Equity originators to provide updates. * Works closely with related departments to Manage working relationships and promote teamwork. Is well informed and engaged in execution of staff responsibilities to monitor and measure performance * Utilize technology to build a digital-lending process. Gain a thorough understanding of the auto-decisioning features and functionality of the Loan Origination System. * Responsible for assuring appropriate branch employees are informed and understand Home Equity product offerings and pricing. * Act as first level escalation response and resolution, as needed and provides assistance with complex loan transactions. * Coaches and trains Home Equity employees and Credit Union ONE staff regarding products, services, systems, processes and compliance related matters. * Obtain and maintain lending authority. * Support originators in meeting and exceeding production based upon pipeline management and goals. * Tracks all referral activities and member contact reports to assure that service level and culture standards are being met. Reports results to supervisor for any corrective action or recognition. * Manages projects related to Home Equity origination. * Ensures that Loan Originators are trained and have completed their NMLS registration prior to originating Home Equity loan applications. * Review/follow-up on surveys from Home Equity closings and escalates negative surveys to the SVP of Consumer Lending. * Responsible for staff development and regular performance discussions to address areas of efficiency or where improvement is needed, and property documents meetings with staff in accordance with established processes and procedures. When appropriate, engaged in disciplinary, corrective action, and performance plans for employees who fail to meet performance expectations or in the event of any employee disputes. * Recommends, directs and manages changes of improvements on Home Equity lending projects, loan processes, product development and compliance as it relates to operational considerations, training and implementation. * Responsible for maintaining and managing the servicing of closed and open-ended home equity loan portfolio. * Responsible for the end to end Home Equity loan origination process to include approval (underwriting) of all internally originated residential mortgage loans, home equity loans, subordinations, and 5-year rewrites in accordance with established goals, criteria and standards for the department. Requirements: * Bachelor's degree preferred * Minimum of 5 years of home equity or mortgage experience - origination and servicing; laws, regs, and compliance * NMLS registration * Minimum of 2 years management experience in a financial institution including coaching, performance evaluations, and staff development * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills * Intermediate experience with MS Office products, especially Word and Excel Credit Union ONE Of Michigan Ferndale MI
