JOB SUMMARY The Telemetry Tech#provides organizational and administrative support to patient care units and the health care team under the direction and supervision of the Charge Nurse or other Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. These duties include assisting nurses and physicians with direct and indirect patient care. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff utilizing our culture of kindness philosophy.

The Telemetry Tech#supports the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to team requests and patient needs. The Telemetry Tech#carries out all aspects of the position using good judgment and problem-solving skills, and strong interpersonal skills. The Telemetry Tech#helps to monitor and facilitate activities at the unit nursing station and performs tasks necessary to maintain proper flow of patient care and related documentation.

The Telemetry Tech#acts as receptionist and must be able to remain professional with a positive attitude under stressful conditions with multiple demands. The Telemetry Tech#fulfills the role of an Telemetry Tech#as assigned by nursing and as necessitated by patient load. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs Telemetry Tech#duties including admissions and unit clerk functions, to include, but not limited to, the following:

Assists in the coordination of patient flow on the unit, including admissions, transfers, and discharges; communicating unit-related and/or patient-related needs to other departments and healthcare team members. Assists in the transportation of patients for discharge and transfers as needed. Prepares forms and documents required for patient care; communicating unit-related and/or patient-related needs to other departments and healthcare team members; requesting and obtaining supplies and equipment; answering the phone and greeting visitors; providing clerical support to the unit, and other duties as required.

Accurately transcribes and transmits physician#s orders. Maintains patient medical records under the supervision of a registered nurse. Understands and uses medical terminology in order completion and record maintenance.

Schedules patient tests/procedures in a proficient and timely manner. Utilizes Cerner system to input data and retrieve information. The Telemetry Tech#is responsible for general office management, clerical and receptionist duties; facilitating order entry and processing; coordinating administrative support activities on the nursing unit.

Interviewing patients or their representative, to obtain personal information or verify information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information. Generating appropriate paperwork on each admission type and in accordance with the requirements of the various ancillary departments. Accepting patients for hospital service, both on an in-patient and outpatient basis.

Insures that appropriate physician documentation is obtained prior to processing patients. Obtaining signatures on Conditions of Admission and initiating the advance directive process, updates status of patient#s advance directives. Providing information to the patient/representative about billing, complaint process, patient rights and visiting hours.

Approaches family and visitors in a kind and professional manner. Gives explanations and verbal reassurances consistently to family and visitors. Interacts professionally with co-workers and other healthcare providers.

Fosters communication between multiple disciplines on the behalf of the patient. Participates in informal conferences involving the care of patients. Communicates ideas for improvement to the unit manager/charge nurse.

Treats patients, their families and visitors with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Adheres to SMH Culture of Kindness First standards.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Organizes and manages activities to show consideration of the unit as a whole. Reflects knowledge and judgment in decision and actions within the job description of the Telemetry Tech/EMT.

Is aware of patient condition and whereabouts when patient is out of the unit. Review orders within EMR continuously to ensure x-rays, labs etc. are completed. Order supplies and stocks as required.

Updates report worksheets. Transfers calls to RN within appropriate time from lab with critical results. Makes referral phone calls and follow-up appointments per Physician#s request.

Assists in recording information for performance improvement activities. Assists other staff members as needed with transferring and transporting of patients. Demonstrates proficiency in use of computer system.

The Telemetry Tech#is responsible for general office management, clerical and receptionist duties; facilitating order entry and processing; coordinating administrative support activities on the nursing unit. Distributes hospital specific literature. Assists with orientation of new personnel.

Orders non-stock supplies through the Materials Management computer system. Performs proper telephone etiquette. If transferring a telephone call, announces the caller and briefly explains the situation before ending the transfer.

Attends and actively participates in departmental staff meetings. Completes all mandatory education; participates in continuing education activities within the department and organization. Restocks items daily at the nurse#s station.

Keeps up to date with clinical practice and evidence-based practice guidelines. Stays abreast of organizational policies and procedures. Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education / Experience / License and Certifications High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), required. Complete CNA course at SMH and become licensed within 1 year., required BLS certification, required. Continuing Education per Wyoming Emergency Medical Services certification requirements.

Telemetry Technician Certification must occur within 6 months of hire if not currently held. Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment. Prior experience in provision of patient care in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred.

Minimum of 6 months Unit Coordinator or office skills experience preferred. Additional Skills Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge and organizational skills.

Medical terminology course preferred.

Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Must demonstrate superior time management and organizational skills.

Must ensure work is completed in a timely fashion with a high level of accuracy. # In accordance with Sheridan Memorial Hospital#s (SMH) duty to maintain a safe work environment for staff, patients and visitors, and to ensure the facility remains in compliance with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation, COVID-19 vaccinations or an approved medical or religious exemption is required in accordance with established CMS requirements.
