The Telemetric Technician I is primarily responsible for the installation and repair of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD's) and/or other electronic safety devices, implementing standards and tracking as set forth by the Lead Telemetric Technician and the DOT Compliance Manager. The Level I Technician is also expected to demonstrate an ability to learn all aspects of the equipment and will get all technical assistance from a higher level Telemetric Tech or the Lead Telemetric Tech.

Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities:

  • Complies with all company safety policies and procedures

  • Promotes ethical behavior in all aspects of the business and leads by example

  • Communicates clearly by ensuring comprehension of issues and answering questions via phone calls/email as needed, or face to face.

  • Promotes Operations, DOT and HR policies, procedures and standards

  • Installs, troubleshoots and repairs ELD's and associated equipment with assistance from senior Telemetric Techs

  • Tracks and documents failures and repairs of ELDs and other electronic safety devices

  • Coordinates with District DOT Coordinator/Supervisor to verify any violations reported due to equipment glitch or failure, and identifies and facilitates repairs or replacement of faulty units

  • Travels to various remote fleet locations to conduct equipment audits and repairs.

  • Coordinates with more senior technicians to set and accomplish daily goals as directed by the Lead Telemetric Technician and the DOT Compliance Manager.

  • When available, assist rig up drivers with quick resolution of small electronic problems to ensure compliance before leaving the yard

  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Must have valid driver's license and meet company insurance requirements

  • Previous experience with electronics and GPS mapping

  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including long and/or occasionally irregular hours

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly quantify and clearly communicate problems effectively at all levels

  • Must possess flexibility and the capacity to handle a wide range of situations and personalities

  • Must be extremely detail and standard oriented

  • Must be familiar with electronics and computer systems in general, vehicular electronics specifically, and must have familiarity with standard computer programs and systems used in the normal office environment

Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems. Essential Functions: * Leads and directs all gas distribution work for a construction crew. * Installs, repairs or replaces steel and plastic pipe. * Ensures that each crew member knows safety policies and practices, monitors for compliance, coaches in the field. * Ensures gas lines and other utility lines are located prior to excavation. * Ensures plastic and steel welding performed by crew members meets standards. * Transports required equipment, tools, and supplies to work site. * Provides First Responder assistance in emergency situations. * Completes paperwork as required. Basic Qualifications: Education: Requires a high school diploma or GED. Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years experience in construction, installation and/or maintenance systems (to include one of the following: natural gas distribution; piping systems; water, sewer, or electric utility; state/city/county/parish and the oil industry). Two (2) years experience in natural gas distribution preferred. Must include one (1) year of experience welding steel pipe Competencies: 1. Physical Requirements: * Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone or mobile phone. * Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop, for extended periods * Able to reach, grasp and move items. * Able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time. * Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. * Able to stand, walk, stoop, knee, or crouch for extended periods of time. * Able to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted. * Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, and/or earplugs on a daily basis. * Able to exert routine physical effort on daily basis. Working Conditions: * Able to support the Emergency Operating Plan. * Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime as business needs. * Able to work rotating shifts, if required. * Able to work in both an office environment and outside field locations including able to tolerate exposure to all weather conditions. * Able to travel as needed occasionally, possibly overnight. * Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmosphere. * Able to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and occasionally return to work while off duty. * Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and/or DOT safety sensitive positions. * Must obtain Class A CDL License within 90 days of employment. * Must pass company welding certification within 90 days of employment and maintain certification qualifications.
