Telecommunications Technician #2335 - Telecommunications - Finance Division

THIS IS A DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL POSTING OPPORTUNITY. ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF HAMILTON COUNTY TELECOMMUNICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. 

Under direct supervision performs intermediate level maintenance, repair, and installations of voice and data communication systems; installs and repairs Cat 6 cable in county facilities for computer and telephone use; troubleshoots, installs, and repairs telecom equipment; installs, tests, repairs, and performs splicing on outside plant cable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The equivalent of a high school diploma plus two (2) years of Telecommunications repair/installation experience with certifications specific to area of assignment. Must possess a valid driver's license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be available for on-call duty as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires pulling cable while balancing on a ladder, crawling, kneeling, stooping, bending and lifting up to 75 pounds of cabling and telecommunication equipment or power tools. May be exposed to fiberglass, asbestos, chemicals and fumes found in and around construction sites as well as exposure to infectious diseases when working in health department clinics. Driving to worksites throughout the County is required.
