OBXtek is staffing for a Telecommunications Technician IV at the Arnold AF Base in Tullahoma, TN. The essential functions for this position are as follows:
Under minimal supervision, assist with installing and splicing aerial and underground cables, copper, fiber, and any other cable including future replacement technology needed to accomplish communications work scope (voice, data, video, images, etc.)
Evaluates and recommends repair actions for copper and fiber cables.
Uses electronic equipment to locate and mark underground cables in construction areas.
Performs duties as a Telephone Central Office Technician.
Performs required work in connection with the construction, installation, repair, servicing and testing of all types of Central Office, light wave and related equipment.
Performs and assists in repairs and preventative maintenance on Central Office power supply equipment including rectifiers, batteries, distribution panels and fuses.
Evaluates and maintains existing or proposed telecommunications equipment.
Analyzes and recommends solutions to the hardware and software systems and single mode fiber interface. Prepares detailed specifications for implementation of new systems or modifications to existing equipment.
Inspects, cleans, adjusts and repairs equipment to meet operating requirements.
Locates troubles by following prescribed system checking procedures, using appropriate technical data and diagnostic test equipment.
Determines repair procedures required to return equipment to serviceable condition.
Assist in preparing and maintaining all Central Office, cable, maintenance and plant records.
Assists in evaluating all trouble tickets and work orders and completes all necessary tasks in the Central Office before working the trouble ticket or work order in the field.
Installs and maintains telephone subsets, key system telephones and associated peripheral equipment.
Returns and receives faulty equipment for repair.
Orders and receives tools and materials.
Performs switch installation and maintenance
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must possess High School Diploma or equivalent.
Specific Knowledge or Experience:
Six years of progressive experience in maintenance, installation, and repair of telecommunication switching systems and related Central Office equipment.
VoIP installation/deployment and active VoIP support recommended
Requires knowledge of digital switching technology, testing methods, Central Office protection practices and fiber optic systems. Knowledge of wire transmission principles, plant-in-place records, cable symbols, splicing diagrams, methods of joining conductors and splice sealing, test sets, locating cable faults, identifying cause of deterioration, tracing buried cable, cable testing procedures, various methods of sealing cables, and safety precautions related to toxic and explosive gases.
Familiar with Telephone Port Configuration
Ability to Provision phones with minimum supervision
Proficient with Voice Over IP (VoIP) connections, implementation and maintenance
Strong background with Avaya functions and configurations recommended
Must have working knowledge of computers.
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license.
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English and understand spoken English.
