Summary Statement

Under general supervision, is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and accounting for the inventory of telecommunications system parts, equipment, and supply purchases to ensure proper stocking levels for the Wireless Systems Bureau's repair and maintenance plan. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a competitive classification.Application period may close without notice.

Must successfully complete the examination process.

Essential Functions (not intended to be all inclusive)

  • Accepts, receives, and reviews requests for telecommunications system parts, supplies, and other equipment. Researches records. Determines if requested item is available. Fills order and/or initiates order with vendor/supplier as required.

  • Develops, adapts, and interprets operating methods or procedures to increase operational effectiveness.

  • Receives, verifies, and stocks shipped items. Identifies missing, short, excess and/or damaged items, materials, supplies, and/or shipments. Works with vendors to resolve differences and concerns. Reconciles discrepancies. Tags and/or records serial, model, and related item numbers/identifiers.

  • Enters and retrieves data using computerized systems to maintain and update a variety of files, records, logs, reports, inventory control sheets, and other documents for telecommunications system parts, tools, and maintenance.

  • Arranges for the purchase of parts and equipment as necessary for agency telecommunication operations.

  • Handles and stores hazardous materials in compliance with established policies/procedures, OSHA, and state and federal environmental laws.

  • Maintains appropriate job knowledge. Researches information on new products. Develops new sources of supply using catalogs, Internet, vendor contacts, etc.

  • Prepares work orders; obtains all pertinent information; refers to parts manual to determine correct parts and numbers; produces computer generated work orders.

  • Maintains contact and negotiates pricing on telecommunications system parts and services with vendors; evaluates vendor performance.

  • Organizes and arranges warehouse stock to ensure accessibility and orderliness.

  • Prepares perpetual, periodic, and special inventories of stock.

  • Prepares statistical reports on Wireless Systems Bureau parts and tool inventories.

  • Prepares department requisitions and other required forms.

  • Operates appropriate equipment, including forklift and office machines.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Knowledge of:

  1. technical characteristics or properties of telecommunications supply items.

  2. general warehousing procedures.

  3. inventory procedures.

  4. principles and practices of records management systems.

  5. applicable Federal, State, county and/or city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, administrative orders, case law, and State of Arizona and DPS policies and procedures including state procurement procedures and other operational guidelines and directives. (i.e., OSHA regulations and laws pertaining to the workplace environment).

  6. basic principles of proper usage, storage, and handling of hazardous materials.

  7. telecommunications systems, related parts, and their functions.


Skill in:

  1. the use of keyboard devices to input and retrieve information.

  2. operating a forklift.


Ability to:

  1. learn and understand telecommunication systems programs, and the needs and operations of the Wireless Systems Bureau.

  2. apply knowledge of present and proposed telecommunications programs, program changes, work operations, and work sequences and schedules.

  3. interpret written and oral instructions.

  4. perform mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  5. perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.

  6. communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

  7. adapt to changes in schedules and job priorities.

  10. analyze problems and develop viable solutions.

  11. research and reconcile inaccuracies and make appropriate corrections.

  15. identify, package, and stock parts, tools, and supplies into inventory.


Minimum Qualifications

Requires three (3) years of telecommunications systems and component-related experience, including the use of a computerized telecommunications parts inventory and maintenance tracking system. Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be required to work and drive in inclement weather.

May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

May be required to bend, stretch, stoop, reach, and climb.

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals.

May be required to lift and move heavy, bulky items, equipment, supplies, and materials weighing up to 85 pounds.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be required to travel to perform certain work functions.

Progression to the next pay level/step requires an overall performance rating of at least "Standard" in the last 12 months.
