Salary Range

Essential Functions
Reporting directly to the Support Services Sergeant, this position is an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative and supportive team at The University of Texas Permian Basin, a part of the prestigious 14 institution University of Texas System. The Communications Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight of the University's Police Telecommunications Division, while working closely with other telecommunicators and supervisors to offer critical insight, identify risks, and collaborate with management on actions to reduce risk and enhance police operations. The Telecommunications Manager focuses on adding value and providing guidance and leadership to the telecommunicators they supervise. The ideal candidate will possess impeccable integrity, objectivity, and tenacity for upholding high ethical standards, with the ability to maintain independence in both fact and appearance.
Supervises, assigns, trains and evaluates employees in the performance of public safety telecommunications and takes quick decisive actions involving escalating situations.
Provides guidance in interpreting and enforcing operational policies and procedures and uses appropriate authority regarding actions. Evaluates, writes, and updates emergency and standard operating procedures.
Schedules and assigns respective shift personnel; maintains adequate staffing levels.
Verifies and executes institutional emergency plan and initiates and follows through with emergency notification system. Participates in the Incident Command System (ICS) in coordination with field operations and the Emergency Operation Centers of the University of Texas.
Inspects and monitors the overall performance of radio and telephone communications, closed circuit television, automated data systems, and alarms. Forwards concerns through channels to the appropriate authority. Ensures compliance with CJIS, Clery, CALEA, and other applicable State and Federal regulations.
Prepares daily and monthly reports and performs monthly quality assurance checks.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma
One or more years as a telecommunicator or telecommunications manager.
Experience operating multi-channel radio system
A working knowledge of CJIS/TLETS operations
Have been issued a TCOLE PID Number
Preferred Qualifications
Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or another related field.
Two plus years in management or supervision.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
