Telecommunications Engineer (RDTE-19-1384-F):

Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Engineer to support the NSWCDD RDT&E Network Support Contract at Dahlgren, VA.

  • RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer Certification) is needed to design Infrastructure (such as Fiber Optics, ITS, Wireless Systems. The Physical Infrastructure Engineer
  • RCDD develops the basis of estimate for the pricing of large and moderate sized or complex projects for telecommunications and related systems. Position responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Physical Infrastructure Engineer

  • RCDD include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviews documents such as drawings and specifications to accurately determine the scope of projects, to include all materials, labor, developing a design plan milestones and schedule, identifying resources needed to meet the plan and schedule, and submittals, as necessary to prepare a cost proposal or other pricing document. Prepares spreadsheets and coordinates with distributors of data networking products to obtain pricing.

  • Prepares/provides supporting design detail (drawings/narratives) and updates, as required.

  • Conducts site examinations, as necessary to ensure a thorough understanding of actual site conditions/construction and security requirements, as it relates to the installation of telecommunications and related systems.

  • Provides follow-up support (attend meetings, evaluate changes, inspections, etc.) as needed

Requirements Minimum of 5 years in telecommunications system infrastructure, premise and/or OSP cabling, telecommunications system design, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or program management role.

  • Must have an in depth knowledge of current industry standards (ANSI, EIA/TIA, IEEE, industry standards and other applicable codes related to the design and layout of IT and telecommunications systems and related Federal, State and Local related requirements and standards) and industry related product lines.

  • Strong knowledge of Structured Cabling Systems from an installation and basic design perspective.

  • BICSCI RCDD certification is required.

  • Must have experience in the use of a variety of test equipment.

  • Must have above average computer literacy and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong ability and experience in the development and use of spreadsheets, word processing documents, scheduling tools, estimating tools, and design/drawing tools.

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret project drawings and/or blueprints and strong attention to detail. Strong math, analytical, communication, interpersonal skills are also necessary.

  • Must have requires the ability to discern colors used in network cabling and cabling terminations. The position also requires overseeing an Inventory Warehouse and personnel.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.

We are seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join our team in Dahlgren, VA. * Provide technical services in support of the Fleet Support function for current and future ships as documented in NSWC Dahlgren Division Instructions. * Provide technical support to facilitate the computer program delivery, installation process, technical assistance responses and underway support to surface ships. A Technical Situation * Report (SITREP) shall be submitted at the end of each day when onboard ship or shore sites conducting computer program installations, support or trouble resolution. * Provide technical support in the troubleshooting and operational restoration of Surface Combat System computers and networks in response to deficiencies reported by the Fleet. * Conduct Approved Articles Package (AAP) audits in conjunction with Total Ship's Readiness Assessment (TSRA). * Assist ships in managing the certified configuration. * Perform corrective actions, as required, to ensure ships are in conformance with the certified configuration. * Generate AAP Audit Reports to document audit findings and trends. * Maintain Approved Articles Packages (AAPs). * Evaluate changes to Lowest Replaceable Units (LRU) and media items to identify potential impacts to OEs, drivers, or applications. * Assess impact of LRUs on the Approved Articles List, and assess non-AAP LRUs and media. * Review technical documents for impact to operational baselines. Technical documents may include Maintenance Work Packages, Engineering Change Notices, Advanced Change Notices, Ship Change Documents, and Field Modification Bulletins. * Provide recommendations regarding conjunctive changes, CPCRs, and test requirements. * Participate in change control boards and diminishing material groups to assess changes from an AAP perspective. * Support to include operation of the Fleet Support Operations Center (FSOC) and associated communication equipment, drafting naval messages, and participation in on-site and/or distance support responses to fleet requests for technical assistance. * Develop/maintain/produce presentations for fleet support briefings provide action and milestone planning, project tracking, progress and financial analysis and monitoring, and participate in program status and planning meetings. * Support the development and maintenance of standard procedures. * Support the identification and implementation of new technology and automation into the processes for technical support of computer program delivery and technical assistance responses to surface ships.
