Telcom Systems Engineer

The Telecommunications Engineer installs and administers telecommunications equipment and services at multiple office locations and data centers. Services include voice messaging, call center, call recording, web collaboration, emergency notification, and faxing. The Telecommunications Engineer will be responsible for the coordination and continued execution of voice, data and cellular services in addition to endpoint or ancillary equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform system software and hardware changes and troubleshoot as needed to the Call Server, Call Recorder system, Voice messaging / Auto attendant system, Contact Center, Telephony Manager, and related systems. Perform repairs and installation of telephone sets, headsets and wiring.

Researches and recommends system purchases as part of the telecommunications budgeting and project planning processes. Prepare budget and time estimates for telecommunications projects and equipment installations. Research, negotiate, recommend, and implement contracts with telecommunications carriers, maintenance providers, equipment vendors, cellular service providers and coordinate support for smart phones.

Coordinate with vendor account representatives and service technicians regarding system changes and system problems. Maintain and enhance disaster-recovery strategies for systems and web applications. On-call and work alternate hours as necessary to provide coverage and ensure continuous availability of services during business hours.

Design, write, test and implement custom reporting and routing programming for auto attendant and call center services. Write and publish technical documentation for the use and maintenance of telecommunications equipment and services. Engage in vendor contract negotiations when required.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and at least 4 years supporting an enterprise telecommunications infrastructure and related services or an equivalent combination of education/experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

• Certifications in the following discipline: Telecommunications, voice/data networking.

• A comprehensive knowledge of VoIP hardware, software, programming including voice messaging and contact center servers.

• Working knowledge of public service telephone network (PSTN) and cellular communications.

• Strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated project management and business planning skills.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Able to occasionally work alternate hours including evenings and weekends.

• Knowledge of Genesys phone systems strongly preferred

The hiring salary range for this position is $76,000.00 - $86,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the rime of posting.
