Chubb Group of Insurance Company'sWhitehouse Station office in New Jersey is currently seeking a TechnologyUnderwriter to join its underwriting team forthe Small Business market focused on emerging Life Sciences enterprises withrevenues less than $30,000,000.


  • Theposition underwrites newline referral accounts submitted through an on-lineplatform for the Small Commercial division with a concentration on ProductsLiability and Clinical Trial coverage for Life Sciences organizations.

  • Theperson in this position will have an influence on shaping Small Commercial LifeScience underwriting strategy, as well as, advancing product and processenhancements.

  • Theperson in this position will focus on adhering to Chubb Life Scienceunderwriting guidance and strategy.

  • Thisposition will play a critical role within the training and development of LifeSciences skillsets for the entire underwriting team.

  • Thisposition is primarily responsible for underwriting functions, along with asmall percentage of UA tasks as we continue to automate our Small Commercialplatform.

  • Thelines of business currently underwritten and offered on the Small Commercialon-line platform are: Commercial Property/ Liability/ Umbrella /Commercial Auto/ Workers Compensation / E&O & Cyber.


  • Weare looking for an experienced candidate that is highly motivated to succeed,has strong desk management competencies, is results oriented and can workindependently as well as handle internal referrals from peers based upon thecandidate's current level of underwriting authority

  • Candidatemust have a minimum of 3 5 years of Life Sciences (Products Liability andE&O) underwriting experience andpossess some knowledge of policy issuance and processing centerworkflows

  • Strongsales, communication and marketing skills are critical; must be able todemonstrate success with managing tight time frames, high volumes of work,agency relationships in a remote capacity and positioning Chubb's strengthswithin the commercial lines arena

  • Astrong track record of service orientation is required

  • Candidatewill need a solid background in risk analysis, especially within Life SciencesProducts Liability insurance. Knowledge and proficiency with technical issues,compliance, coverage, products and pricing strategies expected


  • Bachelor'sdegree or equivalent experience

About the Role The Senior Treaty Underwriter supports the Property Hub in producing profitable treaty business, in conjunction with the Client Market team. Act as champion and catalyst for structured reinsurance solutions and collaborate with P&C Structured Solutions (PCSS), Client Markets and Business Development to generate a pipeline of reinsurance opportunities. Leadership * Drives the execution of Americas Property strategy within the various client cross-functional teams * Leads and develops junior underwriters to provide high-quality underwriting services and differentiated solutions to best serve client's needs * Represents and positions Swiss Re as a strong Property player within his/her market segment * Builds and fosters a collaborative team spirit, shapes culture of consultative sales, innovative solution creation and smart business origination Underwriting * Demonstrates a deep understanding of risk selection and underwriting practice (including risk management, industry assessment, client risk appetite and rating methodologies) * Utilizes expertise and mathematical knowledge in combination with underwriting judgment and tool knowledge to analyze data, do advanced risk assessments which are used to calculate the realistic expected loss * Demonstrates a solid understanding of contract /policy wording and applies this knowledge to analyze and interpret the structure and contents of (re)insurance contracts and has ability to review and challenge contract clauses based on underwriting and market knowledge * Understands, identifies and monitors property (re-) insurance market trends, risk landscape and regulatory developments that may affect Swiss Re's property business * Ensures compliance with underwriting guidelines and manages the process of risk analysis, structuring and capacity deployment * Develops new ideas and innovative products and supports product development initiatives which address client's needs * Effectively and efficiently manages large transactions and projects to ensure the desired return and realization of defined project benefits (outputs and outcomes) within the given constraints of time, cost, scope, and quality Client Services * Establishes strong relationships with clients, and brings client focused thinking to cross-functional teams * Provides product support and services to clients in collaboration with Client market team Risk Management/Planning * Supports the Head of Property Underwriting in performing underwriting data quality checks * Ensures SOX compliance and contributes to the SOX process for underwriting activities * Contributes to all relevant Desk- and Hub-level report generation and deal-specific reporting requirements * Provides input (Loss Ratios, rate level changes, etc) to the planning process * Provides input to Client Markets business plan Training and Development * Helps recruit, train, and nurture superior underwriting talent * Continues to upgrade his/her underwriting and sales skills About the Team This role is part of the Globals Underwriting team and the preferred locations are Armonk, Schaumburg and Westlake Village.
