Position Description

Position: Technology Technician I

Reports to: Technology Director or Designee

Terms of Employment: 12 Months

Pay Grade: 64

Pay Range: $2,644.79 - $4,454.94

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Nature of Work

An employee in this class will be assigned to approximately four campuses to perform tasks to aid in the on-going support of teachers, students, and employees that utilize a wide variety of technology. The employee aids with device repair, back-ups for disaster recovery, hardware and software installation, digital projector support, printer configuration, general troubleshooting and other duties as assigned. The employee may assist in hardware and software support to staff including but not limited to software training. Also, the employee will generate reports, properly track inventory, and utilize a work order system to track and prioritize tasks. The employee is expected to collaborate with other school-based personnel and members of Technology Services to provide efficient and effective levels of customer service and support. In some cases, the employee will research appropriate manuals to find answers. If standard techniques do not resolve the situation, the employee will seek assistance from the appropriate technical professional.

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school and three years of experience in the use of computing and information technology resources. Specific knowledge of the software or systems supported may be required. An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

  • Repairs, maintains, and upgrades technology-related

  • Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and

  • Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technology-related

  • Maintains an inventory of electronics components needed to make timely

  • Uses a work-order tracking system for routine repair and maintenance of

  • Support network and communications team with running and replacing cable/wires.

  • Refers complex problems to higher level technical

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of computers and related technology devices (printers, projectors)

  • General knowledge of electronics devices - familiarity with Windows, Mac, and iOS environments

  • General knowledge of software packages

  • Ability to communicate with users to determine the nature of

  • Ability to communicate effectively with users who may not be adept in clarifying problem

  • Ability to assist users with applications

  • Ability to train teachers in the use of hardware and

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working

  • Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional

  • Ability to solve independently most minor

  • Effective use of time management, staying on schedule, and prioritizing

  • Ability to systematically troubleshoot standard electronics

  • Ability to communicate effectively with users, peers, and

  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including computers, scanners, computer software, computer hardware, sharing devices, etc. Must be able to

exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to climb ladders and work in ceilings to assist in running or replacing network cable.

Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, newsletters, trade journals, etc.

Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, training materials, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats.

Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
