This position can we based in Richmond or Ashburn VA. Responsibilities require time in the office or in a field on a regular basis. Some responsibilities can be performed remotely. Additional locations may be considered.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
As Technology Specialist Sr. in Network Implementation team, you will provide network change implementation support within our 24 by 7 enterprise production data centers.
Your primary focus is flawless execution of network hardware, software, and configuration changes as per documented standards. You will be responsible for validating that changes are documented accurately in accordance with our engineering standard runbooks. You will execute pre-change / post-change validation checks, and successfully implement changes without client impact.
The position will be Weekend Night Shift, Thursday
Sunday, 8pm
6am EST. The role will be filled at the Richmond, VA or Ashburn, VA with preference given to those with ability to support both data centers. You will report to the Network Implementation Manager within the Change Engineering division.
JOB DUTIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
Change Implementation Team -
Executes network break/fix changes and scheduled project deployments.
Drives change implementation to data center, business office, branch, and ATM networks.
Executes single device and large-scale deployments of hardware, software updates, and configurations.
Focuses on continual improvement via automation, and processes, to drive change standardization and success.
Change Implementation Team Candidate responsibilities for this role (non-exhaustive) -
Onsite network engineer responsible for installing/replacing network devices and components such as switches, routers, and cabling.
Functions as part of a virtual team supporting other technology disciplines as needed.
Develops and maintains technical, operational, and service procedures.
Responsible for managing component inventory.
Creates and submits change requests in accordance with established processes.
Supports incident resolution and root cause analysis of production problems.
CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES:
The candidate that fills this role will be extremely organized and detail focused. Strong network deployment and troubleshooting experience is required. You must have several years of network support experience at layer 1 through 3 and previous onsite data center hardware support experience.
Technical leadership skills to review and challenge change plans ensuring successful implementation.
Must be organized and able to create and follow processes, from planning and pre-validation to execution and validation.
Self-directed analytical skills with the ability to assess new environments and drive improvement.
Critical listening skills to accurately evaluate requests and provide precise feedback.
Excellent verbal communications skills in areas with electronic equipment background noise.
Strong documentation skills for runbook creation and change status/summaries.
Collaboration skills to work with others to drive issue resolution and to knowledge sharing.
Ability to lead technical troubleshooting calls and escalate when necessary.
Innovative, proactive, and process-oriented mindset that is focused on generating ideas and executing initiatives to drive team efficiency.
TECHNICAL / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience with carrier class Data Center circuits and equipment.
Cisco Router/Switch hardware and software operation.
Arista Switch hardware and software operation.
Arista CVP device management experience.
Layer 2 protocols such as VLANs, Spanning Tree
Layer 3 routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, OSPF
TCP/IP and related protocols
Basic knowledge of network packet capture tools such as Wireshark, WildPackets, etc.
ITIL Foundations or experience with concepts such as Request, Incident, Problem and Change
CCNA preferred.
CCNP preferred.
Scripting experience.
Experience with ServiceNow or other large-scale processes and change management platforms.
Job Description
Administers, executes processes/procedures and addresses issues for products and services supported in Technology Infrastructure. May support analysis and report generation, exception processing and service management. Implements new products, services, and operational solutions as well as augments existing capabilities.
Performs advanced administration requiring sound and thorough knowledge of specified operational products /services.
Provides technical operational, analytical and research support to technical teams through both written and verbal communications.
Drives incident resolution and root cause analysis of production problems.
Develops and maintains technical, operational and service procedures, as well as process workflows for operational/applications teams.
