Technology Development Scientist

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Technology Development Scientist, are to:

  • Develop seed genetic purity assay(s) to reduce turnaround time, reduce COGS and increase quality to support both raw crops and vegetables quality testing to support seed production and seed sales;

  • Drive technology implementation projects to completion including setting up discussions with technical leads in regional seed quality testing labs, managing project milestones and timelines, training lab personals on the technology etc.;

  • Enable aglobal testing strategy and capability especially North America and Asia regions by driving assay standardization, transfer and validation in global regions to ensure seed business continuity;

  • Lead and influence genetic community (around 10 people) of technical leads from global testing labs to identify improvement opportunities, align on testing method and process as well as to bring in new technologies;

  • Facilitate row crop quality trait testing alignment through seed product supply pipeline.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with at least eight years of experience in Molecular Genetics, breeding or related field OR Ph.D. with at least four years of experience in Molecular Genetics, breeding or related field;

  • Excellent communication - oral, written, and team work skills within a diverse organization;

  • Experience in successful assay development and implementation;

  • Strong background in plant genetics or breeding.

Domestic relocation may be provided.

More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree with at least eight years of experience or Master's degree with at least six years of experience or Ph.D. with at least three years of professional and/or post doc experience; * Educational preparation or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline; * Strong proficiency in computational skills, skilled at the intermediate level building data models using R, Python or other statistical and/or mathematical programming packages; * Demonstrate clear understanding of software development best practices (Version Control, Code Documentation and Review, Cloud Based Sequence Analysis, Database Management); * Demonstrate proficiency in machine learning algorithms and concepts; * Extensive experience in successful delivery of valuable analysis through application of domain knowledge and evidence of strong business acumen; * Ability to manage a larger more diverse and complex project/program; * Strong communication competencies to include presentations and delivery of complex quantitative analyses in a clear, concise and actionable manner to broad audiences and key stakeholders across multiple functions.
